Youth Hockey Hub
Both my players have now graduated out of youth hockey. Looking back, one thing that really bugs me now (that did not bug me a few years ago), is the fact that Youth Hockey Hub is directly profiting off of our youth hockey players during the MN Hockey seasons. I know others profit off of our kids during off season, or by offering "outside MN Hockey" additional training, but this is different.
Youth Hockey Hub is using images, and full names of 10-15 year olds in order to make money on his website. It didn't bother me when he was a glorified blog, but now he is pulling in sponsors, running tournaments and treating youth hockey like it is the NHL. Frankly it sickens me. I sense Tony is a nice guy and probably had good intentions, but do we really want our 10-15 year olds put on a pedestal like Tony offers with his year end awards, etc?? These kids are already a challenge to keep from getting big heads and complacent.
If it was more like a blog, and he was just streaming a few games as a convenience to family members who cant make the game, it would be different. Does MN Hockey, districts, or associations sell him the rights to profit off of our kids? Maybe he does, and maybe he doesnt even make a dime. I dont know. Just feels very icky to me. I could be crazy though. Your opinion?

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Very seldom go to that site anymore, even though I know quite a few players still at the youth level and I still try and follow what goes on. But, it's capitalism at its best. Parents love to see little Johnnys name mentioned, and will buy the subscription just in case. It has gone far beyond reporting on a game or tournament, to throwing out name after name. Some would say he's exploiting the kids, and that includes kids that are under the 10-15 age bracket.

Just a simple, please don't mention my child (parent) or team (by a coach) would be instantly honored.
I remember the days of waiting.. days to hear scores and now we get play by play or even video for some.
It's the same thing as Let's Play Hockey, taken from paper, to the new cyber way.
Keep up the good work!

I couldn't agree more. It is disgusting and Minnesota Hockey should be ashamed of themselves for allowing it to happen.

Will you be leading the protest when ABC makes money off of the Little League World Series this summer too?wannagototherink wrote:zooomx wrote:Both my players have now graduated out of youth hockey. Who are you or I to make that decision?zooomx wrote:Yes, it feels a need. Ask yourself this: Is it a healthy need, or a narcissistic need?DrGaf wrote:It's America. It fills a need.
I just wish i had the testicular fortitude to do it first.
The consumer public decides if they want to make it a need in their lives, they click the articles, they subscribe, they attend the tourneys, they buy the sweatshirts. In the simplest economic standards ... it fills a need. There is a demand for it.
