I'd like to see some of the "out-state" teams do well. However, I don't see much of a chance for any of them, besides Roseau Vs Lakeville South. And Lakeville South is GOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!! That is just a testament to how good of a team Roseau has.

Congrads to ALL of these teams. For many just being in the State Tourney is a Dream Come True!!!!

I agree with you SLPCoach. My son, Ryno and I went to the games in Brooklyn Park for the Maroon PWA. Oh my!! You talk about good teams - NO I meant to say GREAT teams!

Heck I feel sorry for some of the losing teams in the Maroon region, they might be able to beat the "out state" teams that made it to Duluth.

Have you seen this Wayzata team SLPCoach? You talk about big and strong - wow!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... keyDad9 at: 3/6/06 12:30 pm

I am really pulling for Roseau, as my first prediction came true al the way back from Nov. I said Roseau would be a team at the state tourney and they now are. I added later in Dec. that they'd be in the top 4. GO ROSEAU!

I think we had 8 shots in the game.
Wayzata did play a full game against us though and never really did slow down. They had lost the game prior to playing us (to Rochester). So they came out with something to prove.

In My Opinion: if every team in this tourney plays their BEST game, Wayzata and Eden Prairie are in a class of their own.

I am with you Coach. I was so impressed with Wayzata. When I saw EP on Saturday they had some "internal" issues that were unknown at the time. All that is behind them now so I would expect them to be flying again.

Not at liberty to say what the issue is or was.

I am sure all would understand why the team wasn't completely "there", that's for sure.

Any chance the northern teams can advance? (GR, DE, Roseau)
"Halloween Machine"

From all I have heard and seen only Roseau has the slightest chance against the Maroon Region qualifiers.

Matchups don't look good for Sartell, D.E. or G.R. They are facing the 3 best teams in the state and all three looked awesome in regions and should be ready to fire. All three have played tough schedules and have had few letdown games this year. Edina is susceptible if goaltending gets shakey, but their play from the D is always excellent and their top 2 lines backcheck like crazy. Don't let Edina's lack of size fool you. They are tough and physical and manage to stay out of the penalty box. EP is still the deepest team in the state with the most skill at all positions. Wayzata counters with good depth, size and speed, including the dynamic duo of Tabury and Jensen. If they're on their game, look out.

Roseau has a near even chance against Lakeville.

Roseau's advantage is the strength of their 2nd line vs Lakeville's. The Omdahl/Baumgarter duo can win games, but Lakeville counters with a triple threat of their own with Reid, Schroeder and Panzar on the 1st line. Lakeville's 1st line power play is the best I've seen this year. They also get an edge with solid D and Goaltending. I can see both teams getting scoring opportunities. Roseau may get an edge if the game isn't called too tightly and they stay out of the box. It may boil down to which team takes the most advantage of any line mismatches.

No matter what you think going into a game, the hockey gods may have their say. It is an unpredictable game when you have quality teams playing each other.

Why is everyone so high on Roseau? Duluth East beat them at regions and Grand Rapids outplayed them badly but lost 4-3. DE and Rapids deserve more credit or else Roseau just isn't that good.

Great comments quantummekanic -

I agree, only Roseau has a chance with the Maroon region qualifiers.

That is not a knock on the "out-state" teams, but give me a break - WAYZATA, EDEN PRAIRIE, EDINA, and through in a VERY solid LAKEVILLE SOUTH team, now that is PEE WEE hockey at it's best.

Like I said in another tread, The MAROON region could have been the STATE tournament.

Lakeville south is one third the size of the big 3(ep, edina, wayzata) smaller, younger, and should probably just stay home. Oh, by the way, their record against those 3 teams is 3-4. Thats why they play the games...

I couldn't agree more Hockeydad, multiple classes with multiple champions only serves to dillute the accomplishment of any team big or small...just trying to show my admiration for a team that has over achieved all year. Its an honor just to play in the big show for any kid. Like you said thats the beauty of minnesota hockey.

Your right ddddddude,
But you will only see that happen in the out-state teams, The teams from the metro will be the same for years to come.
And you say that's the beauty of it. I noticed you don't have a bio so you must be from one of those huge areas.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... SONPREZ at: 3/7/06 1:16 pm

I know that its frustrating to many people to watch the same teams have great success year after year, but are the kids on these teams any more or less deserving of playing in a state tournament then players from lesser programs? You could make an arguement that they've had to work harder just to be on their respective teams. It seems unfair to penalize a child just on the basis of where his family happens to reside. Smaller teams can and occasionally will make it to state tournaments. Its that chance that makes it so special, and NO I am not associated with one of the HUGE programs.

If someone works harder to make a team, good for them. If they think it would be easier to make a team out in another district, then move.

Good hockey players aren't where they live, its what they do. It has nothing to do with the size of the town (ask Roseau). It has nothing to do with numbers (ask White Bear Lake). My hope with this tread was to encourage "positive" interaction between fans of the 2006 MINNESOTA PEE WEE A STATE TOURNAMENT.

As we all know there are small associations and big associations. There are good programs and bad programs in each of those. So let's leave it at that.

Let's start talking about this coming weekend.

I must think that the players, coaches, and parents are getting VERY excited.
