I am not ripping Bernie. I am ripping people who hold Bernie in such high regard that they think he is going to take their 8 year old and turn them into a D-1 player.
Bernie's success was built on a team of players that were already the best in their class.
I have heard some really good things about Bernie. One he emphasizes stick handling and skating and makes them do it over and over and over again. Repittion is the way young players develop skills. The problem is not all kids develop the athleticism and strength to become D-1 hockey players. We can not look at a group of 8 year olds and identify the ones that will. They change way to much. Being good at 8 is no gaurantee you will be good at 17 and spending $5000 dollars a summer is not going to buy it for them either. It is just not worth it.
I heard a story about a young kid playing for Bernie who was asked to play in the MN Selects. The dad had to call Bernie to make sure it was ok. The guy asked him do you think if he misses one practice with Bernie he will get cut. The father said yes. Why would you want to play summer hockey under that type of pressure.

the kids and parents who have been trained by bernie get more out of the deal than bernie ever would. if you ahve not had the opportunity to talk to the man, and have your child mentored by him, then you cannot speak. it is all in preparation and work ethic. bernie has done more for minnesota hockey, than usa hockey. there is a thread title what needs to change in minnesota hockey. answered simply, give the whole organization to bernie, and watch it flourish.

8AAScout you can get off your knees now I am sure Bernie has had enough. $350,000 dollar a year salary is pretty nice return for giving so much to these parents.
I had a player play for him the minute I realized how big a scam it was I stopped. 10 hours of ice for $300 dollars. I could get 10 people together charge them $300 dollars and give them 30 hours of ice. This is because I would'nt be paying a large salary to myself.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... Webbing at: 4/14/06 2:25 pm

You have to remember not everyone makes D-1 or let alone pros. But I think it is an advantage playing on a team like this and paying the money because your getting something good out of this. Better team usually means better tournaments which mean more scouts that will watch kids at a young age and watch them every year to see if they get better.

93 and 94 blades roster changes

Post by hockey school »

wow those of you on here ripping on bernie i would just like you to know that, that is my dad he is a great guy for real. and i would know for sure growing up with him, he might be really strict and you dont think his stuff is worth the money it will pay off in the end. If you havent tried it you dont know....wow honestly he is a great coach will help your kid to succeed. Do you really think that all of those boys that were on the 88's team were that good to start off with no i dont think so...i watch them play from the time i was really little and until now...he is a great hockey coach and the ones on here talking bad about him you dont even understand how hard he works for your kids. He dedicates a lot of his time and your kids. He loves teaching them how to play hockey and improve there game. I thank my dad for everything he has done for me i owe everything to him! My brother wasnt always really good at hockey. He worked so hard to be where he is today and i am so proud of him and my dad for helping to improve him. My brother probably used to think he was way to tough on him but if you look at where he is at today...he owes a lot of it to my father. I cant believe you people on here ripping on her honestly not cool at all...cause you dont understand how hard he works for these kids thats just it you dont know him so you shouldnt be talking. Maybe because you are just not as successful as him you dont have to put him down maybe you should work harder.

~sincinerly HopE RaE McBain...Bernies daughter..

The facts:

Bernie knows hockey, and he makes a nice living working many hours teaching hockey.
Bernie is strict.
Bernie is clear in his expectations.
My sons are better hockey players, and of better character, in part because of instruction/direction/guidance from Bernie.
Families are free to go elsewhere to spend their money.

It's that simple.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... p19tain at: 4/20/06 6:26 am

It will be interesting to hear some of the "Machine" parents talk after this summer. Especially the ones that he will cut. It is a pipe dream to think that he can manufacture your kids into hockey players. I heard there are people moving into Edina to be closer to Bernies school...if you put that money into a 7% bond right now, your kid will be better off. Think about it.

How utterly ironic it is that you make the comments you made about player turnover with Bernie in a Blades thread. If you were to talk to him, the reason he left the Blades is because the Blades wanted him to just cut kids mid-season and he was not willing to do that. But if you want to eat up every bad word that someone says or screams about Bernie, than you have a problem that no one can fix.

Pamesh, I just came accross another doozy of a post from you as I read thru the rest of this thread. It is seriously time to stop talking on a subject you know very little about. It is ignorance like yours that can cause so many problems. "I heard a story..", that's always when you want to make sure to believe all of it and tell everyone you know.
It sounds to me that you and a couple of others on here are either very bitter because your son was not initially chosen for one of his teams or because you are frustrated with one of his teams defeating your sons team. either way toughen up and smarten up...why don't you stop and really think about why you are trying to tear the guy down and don't reply with your meek "I'm not ripping Bernie I'm ripping the parents" bull. Even so stop and think about what gives you the right to rip them for doing what they feel is best for their child.

Player feedback

Post by 2HandSlash »

I know a "Machine" player, after talking with him and his parents the only problem I see is the huge letdown from having Bernie as a coach all summer to having the coach he had. It was a step backwards for him. He loves the way Bernie coaches, dedicated, discplined, competitive and always getting you to give your very best. A previous post asked the question about spending $5000 and playing with that much pressure all summer.

IT"S CALLED COMMITMENT AND DEDICATION, if you can't handle it stay home.

I will have to agree with SLAPPY, sounds like a bunch of bitter parents. My son has played for Bernie, and loved it. Bernie is a good coach, and a great guy. As I said in another post, yes he makes money, would you do your job for free? If so, I could use a few people in my office, that cost me nothing.

By the way "LookForTheWebbing" not sure where you are buying ice, but 30 hours would cost you about $5,400, so charging 10 people $300 a piece ($3,000), you would lose money, very generous of you.

Slappy11 you need to read what I said again. read it slow so you don't get confused again.

post 1
This is an inquiry for the actual story about the great 88 team Bernie supposedly created. Everyone,

I have done some reaserch of my own. I called one of Bernie's 96 Machine Parents to see what they paid this summer. He told me that they paid $1475 for the season (March- August).
That was 120 hours of practice and 5 tournaments. That is a total of about 150 hour on ice. $10 bucks an hour for ice, plus his time. Think about it, he's not making a dime.

As far as the '88s go I am very familiar with the '88 birth year as I have coached many '88 teams in "select" type tournaments which involved many of the boys that played for Bernie and know many of the families very well. That team was the Blades for 1 year and then pulled out of the Blades and became the Minnesota '88s. They were only a two line team for the two peewee years and then added a 3rd line when they got Bantams. After the boys got past select 15's the team still skated together for the last 2 years under Bernie, but not to compete, but to train.

Nine of the boys were on the team for the entire 6 year run, 2 of the boys were on the team for 5 years. If you have a hard time counting that means that 11 of the boys were together training with Bernie for 5 years plus the last 2 years while they were in H.S.. Total of 7 years.

I challange you to show me anyone that took 11 kids at Squirt age and has had that kind of success. If you want some proof go to the USA hockey web site and read the feature story on Eric Johnson and Tony Mosey, both families give Bernie alot of credit for thier success.

In the end from his team he will have 10-12 D1 players and 8 or 9 NHL draft picks.

Enough said...or is there something else you still would like answered?!

Those numbers do not sound out of line at all. 10.00 an hour is a good deal.

I have watched this team practice before and was very impressed. The practice tempo was very fast and every player went hard all the time. He would have the kids stop and do the drill again if they were not understanding what to do, and they eventually got it. He never neglected a single player the entire time.

Yes, it is called the breakfast club. Also, if there is anyone that actually could walk on water, it WOULD be Bernie!
Bernie does not care if you have natural talent (like a Mosey or Carman), or not (like his own son Jamie) He WILL make you a top notch hockey player if you want it.

I have son on the team,so far it has been a positive experience Bernie is very strict, but we were all aware of his expectations before we paid, the money, Bernie has a way unlike Iv'e ever seen for getting the most out of the kids<I have an older son who is now in highschool who played AAA hockey from 8yrs old on,I've seen about every gimik out there to improve your hockey skills,I've spent many Thousands of $ over the years,My '97 was not enjoying 6 hr's of practice per week at 1st,He is developing a passion for hockey that wasn't there,my older son had passion from day 1,Bernie is not afraid to talk about the NHL,D1,being the best in not only Minnesota, the World!!!!!!!!!!! Passion/Dream
Don't worry My son won't be cut he's one of our top players,Berie isn't going to cut anyone anyways,He will develop the ones who need more work,as long as there commited 110%
