District 1

Big7,

That is about the stupidist thing I have ever heard on here. Are you trying to say there are no good players from District 1 (TC)? I am pretty sure I saw Cretin, St Thomas, and Holy Angels do well this year with quite a few kids from what you call "District Dump". Born, Raised, and Developed in "District Dump", oh yeah, and have state champ medals around their necks.

big7stars
You hit the nail right on the head. Why don't these people with money and are so proud of private schools start their own district so they can hobknob together in their own rosie world. I bet the butler ties their skates and wipes their butts.

I find it interesting how people say all these nice things about PRIVATE SCHOOL KIDS, but just keep forgeting how Johnson WAS and STILL IS the hockey tradition in the State of Hockey.

There is only one team in District 1 with money. All you have to do is look at the prices charged to play at each association.
Highland is the highest.
Johnson the lowest.
Everyone else in between.
Just a rumor Highland for Pee Wees is anywhere from $750 to a $1000 to play (not counting tournaments and no equipment except uniforms.)
I think I also heard Johnson is about $400 but you get all your tournaments and a jacket, helmet, brezzers, gloves, jersey bag, equipment bag and uinforms.
All might change for anyone with pull tabs in the city of St. Paul thanks to the new mayor(From Highland area) passing the no smoking in bars.

If Johnson is so cheap why are kids paying more money to get waivers and go to Highland? Can Cretin and St. Thomas and Holy Angels be recruiting and the young ages? Just a question, Not a stupid thought.

Yes they are recruiting at a young age. CDH came after two players on the Johnson Peewee A team and one more from the Bantam team.

They won't go, but it would be nice to know how they would pay for these guys, cause they sure don't have the money for it. They get free lunch because the parents don't have the money.

Wow...recruiting kids from the PWA level! What's next, sending out scouts to little mini-mite games? My point is, who knows what these kids could be like when they get to high school. In most cases, these players physically mature earlier than their peers. By the time they get to high school, most of the other kids should be as good if not better.

Hendy1621,
You are completly right on the button. Most players that are stand outs in squirts and pee wee's are passed by other players by high school.

Hendy,
Of course things change from year to year, but why do pro teams sign up 15 and 16 year old kids that they think will be a player? Because they will be a player. Some kids are going to fall off, but I suppose the private schools are doing the same thing, looking for the players that might make an impact in a few years and try to keep them in the mix until they get to high school.

I agree, I don't like the idea, but sports isn't the only place this happens, you see it in music and business too.

"Coach'n ain't easy"

I guess it all depends on the work ethic of the player. If the player is better than his peers AND works harder than them, and he will work hard to stay better than them, then I could see why they would try to recruit him.

Hendy1621,
Tyrelll is telling the truth, I coach the "A" Pee Wee team at Johnson and about 5 minutes before we were to to take the ice for the semi finals of our districts a lady came to our lockeroom door and said she wanted to talk to one of our players about attending Breck. One of our coaches stopped her at the door before she could enter. She got mad at us for not letting her talk to him. this player is a second year pee wee so what is wrong here?

The reason colleges andthey recruit 15 and 16 year olds is because by then mostly everyone has gone thru puberty. I think it is stupid to recruit kids that r 12 and 13 because the kids who havent yet gone thru puberty will catch up with the kids who have. And if Breck is recruiting kids on PWA teams then theyre in trouble

My opinion is that is just not right. Don't ask them to make that decision when they are 12 or 13 years old. If you ask a player at that age then they might think they are good enough already and wouldn't work as hard to get better as many other kids would.
