Restructuring -
AA & A will be discussed.

A mega league is under discussion.

Sizes of districts is being discussed (that is one number of associations, teams, A level teams, players, etc... should constitute a District).

Helmets - failed to be brought to the table by one vote.
But will be on the agenda for June (or should be based on the request that are being made).

Open enrollment - was voted on but failed.

Similar to thread on this forum - "How to improve Mn Hockey"
Board members completed and spent considerable time discussing what direction/priorities the MN Hockey Board should have. This survey was brought to D16 leaders for their input and they brought (will bring it) back to the local assn leadership for additional input.
If you would like to coplete the survey or see it contact your DD.
Copy of the thread was brought to the meeting.

Elliot70,

It sounds like you're back to square one on redistricting if you are having discussions such as A/AA. Personally, I think it is imperative to have some competitive balance in the districts so that certain districts are not considerably weaker than others on a consistent basis. You guys have a tough job there - keep up the good work.

How did the board elections turn out? Can you share the winners with us?

Eddie, Now I see where all this garbage starts about stronger and weaker and my district should have 5 teams at state because we are better than all the teams in this district.
All teams need to have a chance even if they are not one of the "Elite" teams of Minnesota. Eddie if you want a superstar only state tournament start your own AAA association.

Wow. That's not what I'm stating at all, Crazy7s. You obviously haven't been paying attention to what MN Hockey has already done with the playoff system. They have limited each district to two teams at the regionals next year and will be shifting which district play in each of the regionals on a yearly basis. This could result in one or two outstate teams at any given state tournament (or worse - none). I don't agree with this line of thinking.

What I'm referring to is making sure we have a handful of competitive programs within each district so that one or two programs don't dominate the same mediocre competition on a yearly basis - leaving those stronger programs consistently trying to find a way out of the districts they are in because of the lack of competition.

I could care less about youth state tournaments - they mean absolutely nothing in the long run (other than being a nice experience for the participants).

The new regions will be on the agenda in June.
If you have an opinion please voice them.

Elections.

New Maroon VP is Dave Margeneau (Bob Halverson resigned) for a one year term (normally 3 years).

Gold VP Jerry DeMeo ran unopposed.
Controller Jim Bullard ran unopposed.
*EDIT incubment VP of Hockey Operations BArry Ford also won unopposed.
I have no problems with any of these gentlemen, but would like to see more people step-up and show an interest.

I am going to propose that election for these postions (Presidents, VP, secretary etc) change to a state wide election with each association getting one vote (not have it based on Board member vote). I would like to see a state-wide conference with local associations coming together to discuss matters, share ideas etc (could have vendor booths to help offset the cost). The elections could be held at that time (with mail-in accepted also).

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... liott70 at: 5/3/06 7:22 pm

Elliot,

If the helmet issue failed to be brought to the table, does that mean it is dead for now?

As for restructuring the regionals. My thought is to go back to the way it use to be where districts TC, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 went to one region, and districts 2, 10, 11, IR, 15 and 16 went to one region. Each region sent 4 teams to state.
