Huge Big Ten hockey news as Penn State going D1. This makes a Big Ten hockey conference very likely. This would be great and those teams can contend with Northeast powers. I am moving to State College and will without a doubt be a season ticket holder. I am so psyched....

Great. Hope Penn State does good.
I do not hope that the Big Ten gets in the hockey business though.
I just don't see that idea being good for college hockey.

Possibly add UConn to the list of teams adding college hockey. There is a report on USCHO that Hockey East is pursuing UConn to join the conference.

I think Uconn already has a D1 program and are members of the Atlantic Conference. I don't think they give hockey scholarships at the present time.

Correct. Hockey East is considering acquiring UConn's program to the conference.

Here is the story: http://www.uscho.com/2012/03/30/report- ... nnecticut/

Ok, so that would be an additional 18 scholarships.

How impressive is it that Union is in the Frozen Four and they dont offer scholarships. At least thats what I hear this weekend.

Correct, and it is VERY impressive. They do offer need-based scholarships, like the Ivy League schools, but no athletic scholarships, again like the Ivy League schools.

And even more impressive, considering that Union doesn't have the reputation the Ivies do. They have anywhere near the name recognition--I don't mean to insult Union, but kids don't grow up dreaming of going there quite as much as they do of going to Harvard or Yale.

A couple good freshmen in Sam Coatta and Tyson Fulton.
