Oshie

Post by sundawgg »

TJ Oshie tallied two goals and an assist in North Dakota's 6-3 win over Minnesota State-Mankato Friday night in Grand Forks. The Fighting Sioux went onto sweep the Mavericks the following night, posting a 4-2 win. Oshie ranks third on the team in scoring with 26 points (14g, 12a). His 26 points ranks him only second to Phil Kessel in rookie scoring. Five of Oshie's 14 goals are game winners, which leads the nation...

Awesome job!!!!
____________
"Just go have fun out there. Defineately one of the top 10 players to come out of minnesota in the last 10+ years. Dare i say much better than Wheeler and the rest of the Gopher duds(Kessel aside)?

Post by EREmpireStrikesBack »

Not to discount Oshie at all because I think he is a great player, but I don't think you can say that he is "outperforming" any "duds". He is definitely playing a different role than the "duds". The Gophers aren't relying heavily on them to score whereas Oshie is already one of the top players on the Sioux because it is expected and needed. He is playing better than them, but at the same time they need him to. I don't know if that totally made sense, I'm not sure how to say exactly what I want to say, but hopefully you will get the jist of it.

Elk River AA State Champions- 2001 Boys & 2004 Girls

Look at hte Russia or Finn game in the WJC. Oshie was the only guy throwing his body around. Wheeler (the biggest guy on the ice) got pushed around. I think top to bottom Oshie is the real deal, and will have a very successful carrer after college. Wheeler, not convinced. Scoring isn't everything.

I really like watching Oshie play in both high school and now in college and USA. He is a hard worker and he never seems to stop working on the ice. He throughs his body around and isn't scared to hit. He got laid out a couple times against the gophs, but he always got right up and it didn't seem to slow him down. He is also creative with the puck and is a real goal scorer. He makes mistakes like any freshmen, and early in the season they would pull him then he would get a shift and score. He had really proven himself as a leader.

What's really interesting is UND intitially didn't even have Oshie playing this year. He was going to pay in the USHL, however, when Brady Murray left the Sioux and went to Europe, they had an opening for Oshie. I think UND has at least 10 freshmen on the roster this year, and half of them forwards. Hard to believe that the Sioux coaches didn't think Oshie wasn't good enough to step right in.

I didnt necessarily mean they were "duds" persay, just that they aren't doing what Oshie is doing. However, RJ Anderson doesn't look like he belongs out there. Stoa isn't much better.

Yeah, the Sioux coaches sure are dumba$$es for "almost" making TJ play in the USHL this season.

They need a guy, like you kickshot, on the staff who can accurately "predict" the impact of a freshman coming to the USHL straight from high school. In fact, Lucia could have used you, too, to let him know how Borgen would turn out.

Oshie did move here from Washington I believe... so not really a true Minnesota product, but I would say he is good enough to be.
