Gopher Hockey '06-'07

Post by MNRinkRat »

So let's get some talk going about the Gophers.

The freshmen are really tearing it up so far for the Gophs. Barribal has been just crazy. I've noticed the team has been really strong with the puck, it seems to be hard for opposing players to knock the puck away from them.

Okposo can really move the puck and skate well.

It will be nice to see what they are capable in a month from now.

Why? So he could be the 3rd string goalie? Kangas is great, but he comes in next year to a backup role.

Impressive and gritty sweep this weekend at the DECC where the Gophers have had a lot of trouble recently. Physical play and solid penalty killing were great to see, it appears to be a different Gophers squad this season.

Is another sweep of the cheezy neighbors to the east on the agenda for this weekend? :-k Should be a good series. Any thoughts?

I'm seeing a split. The Badgers are playing much better after a slow start, and it is going to take a little while for the players coming back from Sweden to get re-acclimated, although the Badgers have 3 of those of their own. Madison is always a tough place to play, I think Gophers win tonight and drop one tomorrow.

Split is a good call-will Minnesota play Frazee at all this weekend?

It appears Frazee is playing Saturday, but if Briggs continues his tear tonight, it is going to be tough to sit him tomorrow.

Worst game the gophers have had for a LOONNNNNNNNNNGGGG time tonight. Nobody could catch a pass, or even make a pass for that matter, but everyone has games like that. I hope they can regroup and show why they're #1 tomorrow night. They'll need to do so if they want to stay there.

The Gophers didn't do anything poorly last night, they just didn't do anything well. Wisconsin was able to dictate the flow of the game, which is why you saw such a boring, sloppy game with few chances and little offensive flow. The Gophers are going to need to find more ways to get to the net and get more powerplays to be succesful tonight.

Gophers and Denver had a decent little scrap tonight. Gophs pull it out. Any thoughts on this one? :D

yeah...pretty even game. The gophers had some bad calls against them, and was up like 5-2, but gave up 2 more goals. Bad penalty-killing for both teams.

Overall, the gophs came ready to play tonight...There was no way that they were going to lose.

Gophers got the offense going last night as they rolled Alaska-Anchorage 8-2. Barriball, Wheeler, and Gordon all broke out of their scoring slumps, which is key for the team. Game 2 of the series tonight at 9, no TV.

The team has hit a bit of a late-season swoon, hopefully Lucia can turn it around and get them peaking during the Final 5 and tourney. The team has played much better on the road, so hopefully that can translate into neutral sites.
