Twins take 2 of 3 from Cleveland to start second half of the season.
A good start.

Not exactly Twins related but no position players have been suspended this year for PED’s. Home runs are through the roof and “juiced balls” and launch angle is all the rage.... this reminds me more of the Sosa/McGwire years than anything else. Drugs are always in front of testing, looking at the players hitting HR’s at the rate they are screams cheating.

Ratings and attendance rule, all else be damned....

Oh, my Cardinals are in first so this isn’t sour grapes.

And...... I left Target Field at 10 pm last night, it was the top of the 6th! 3 hours to play 5+ innings? Cripes, I miss Bob Gibson!

Most fans don't enjoy the at of pitching.
Gibson, Koufax, Kaat, Palmer etc
those days are gone.

I think most fans appreciate good pitching. There just isn’t enough of it.

Games Verlander starts draw larger than average crowds away from Houston. So has Kershaw, Scherzer, and Baumgartner in the past. No one wants to see Oderizzi throw 102 pitches in 5 1/3 innings.....too many pitchers like that....far too many. The Twins killed their bullpen with 4 of 5 starters who can’t pitch 5 innings....and a manager who lets them get away with that. I would make Odorizzi throw 6 no matter if his arm fell off. Throw strikes!

The Twins were beaten the last two nights by better starting pitching. Great pitching beats great hitting every time.

@elliott70 I love me some TWINS but tired of the Polad's cheap operations an absurd penny pinching practices.
Case in point NOT adding a stud starting pitcher at the deadline! :x :x :x
Cleveland has the edge on arms for the Central race.
Sad to say it is what it is. #-o
On brighter note the Twins club has sure been fun to watch this season. We are still talking them up in August which has not happened in quite a while.

Magic number at 9
A win today makes it almost impossible not to win the central

For winning we get the Yankees! As Nate Silver points out, the Twins have lost the last 13 post season games against the Yankees, which is basically the same (gulp) as the Washington Generals record against the Harlem Globetrotters.

There is always the scene from Dumb and Dumber.....so you’re telling me there is a chance.....

And the Twins hit more homers this season than the Yankees.

Yet we’re swept.

Pitching matters, having no starter who can be counted on to give a quality start hurts.

Amazingly, not, the two teams in the a World Series have pitchers who can pitch 5 innings.

Marwin Gonzales played for the Astros, known cheaters. Was it launch angle or stealing signs that led to “Bomba squad”? I am leaning stealing signs.

I remember a story of Nolan Ryan hearing a batter figured out a tell he had a tell by moving to the outside of rubber when he threw a curve ball. So he moved to the outside of the rubber then threw a 105 fastball at his ear. The batter never associated a pitch with the rubber again.

I fear there will be no baseball this year, as a baseball guy this really hurts. We played baseball through WW2 but can’t now?

At this point I would take any baseball. It going to be brutally hot especially in Arizona.

Ugh! I am a baseball guy and live and die with my Cardinals. I do not know how long I will survive watching baseball on these crap college fields with fake infields and no fans. And I pay for the MLB Extra Innings package willingly.....if you want to come over to the Dark Side, Extra Innings is cheaper than the FSN package on Directv! Go Cards!

Hoping for a better result today.

Analytics vs 100 years of baseball knowledge..... go figure analytics fail in the post season. Pulling a pitcher who only threw 70+ pitches because, and only because, they don’t want him to face a batter 3 times.....because analytics say. Jack Morris would have punched Rocco Baldelli in the mouth. So would have Kershaw, Scherzer, etc.

The Reds had bases loaded no outs and first and third with no outs and failed to score both times. Embarrassing, except they had no sacrifices all season!

Play for the home run like it is slow pitch softball yet the defense will give up a bunt Single each and every at bat.

Only the Twins pinch hit with a .200 hitter who hasn’t had a major league at bat since August 6th in a key moment. Really, the Twins should have played the Powerballl!

Long term…..there is no shame in losing to the Astros. With 2 legitimate starters in Lopez and Grey with a good bullpen there is a lot of hope. The number of strikeouts by the batters is a huge issue.

Hank Stram once said that when you pass the ball only 3 things happen, 2 of 3 things happens and 2 of them are bad. When you strike out in baseball nothing good can happen. That has to be addressed.

You can’t have hitters batting below the Mendoza line hitting 2-3-4. I can’t fathom how the “analytics favor this.
