It will be interesting to say the least.

Key questions for me....
*what will the post season look like? The MSHSL could have easily had a true state champ in 6A (32 teams) 5A and 4A (48 teams) without exceeding 8 games. Even with out that, unfortunately, I am old enough to remember when polls decided the final 2 or 4 teams in AA. I think that would work this year.

*will Caledonia continue the longest unbeaten streak in the country?

*will we have a snowstorm making someone play in 2 feet of snow?

*living a ground rule double away from Iowa it is hard to figure out how they have gone ahead and we didn’t. Problems are going to happen, having rules and contingency plans should be expected from an organization schools pay money to belong to. The MSHSL has lost a lot of respect as what was one of the premier High School sports associations in the nation.

At any rate a fall season is much preferable to a spring season and we get rid of the stupid “flex” season so hopefully spring sports get to go on time and Legion baseball returns.

Oh.....
The Governor limits crowds to 250 at outdoor events. Players, coaches, officials, and essential personnel do not count to that 250. My school has deemed cheerleaders and the band as essential personnel! 👍 the marching band has started practice, and will play with social distancing!

College football started in earnest today with the SEC returning to play. Good grief I missed college football.

They need to expand the playoffs to 8 teams. The teams need to play at least 8 games. The Sun Belt and BYU need a spot in the playoffs.
If Ohio State loses a game with, say, Rutgers due to COVID they should have to pick up a game.

The Big Ten allows only conference games......guess what the final four will require the Big Ten to play a non conference game. The arrogance of the Big Ten needs to be called out!

LSU paid Failed Nebraska coach Bo Pellini 3 million to run a defense that just gave up over 609 yards in offense to a team that runs 5 plays.

I I was redoing my bathroom......the insulation was newspaper. The headline was the Indians vs the Yankees. The second was Austin vs Cretin in a football championship game.

Playing in a time when we had no post season, I would hope the sectionals will be played and from there...

*will Caledonia continue the longest unbeaten streak in the country?

I have never seen them play but by record and their competition they are a juggeraut.

*will we have a snowstorm making someone play in 2 feet of snow?

I don't know about two feet, but later in the year it is possible I guess. I played in four inches of snow in northern MN.

*living a ground rule double away from Iowa it is hard to figure out how they have gone ahead and we didn’t. Problems are going to happen, having rules and contingency plans should be expected from an organization schools pay money to belong to. Friday #1AA Caledonia travels to #8AAA Stewartville. Stewartville lost a couple of key kids who went to play in another state. This might be the Warriors toughest game in a few years, counting state championship games.

Word was Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz was in Caledonia last Friday. Eli King has numerous Big10/D1 offers in football and basketball. Iowa has offered him scholarships in both sports. Minnesota, Stanford, and Marquette basketball have offers for him. Notre Dame, Penn State, Nebraska and Iowa State football are among his other suitors.

One stud can take a team along way.
For Caledonia they put 11 studs on the field - every year that I can remember.

Caledonia gets 70+ kids out for football, many years more than than the 5A schools in the area. At that level having enough kids that only 3 or 4 have to play both ways is a huge advantage.

As for the game.....Stewartville had a positive Covid and called the game on Thursday afternoon. I don’t think anyone with a free date really wanted Caledonia.

Bemidji crushed Sartell.
Sartell not very good, so what does that say about Apollo.
Moorhead looks very good.
Find out about Brainerd (a little anyway) tonight.

I do not know the right answer.....

The game I officiated last night had numerous kids missing due to MSHSL and local school district rules. Everyday the kids have to fill out a form about their health, if you answer yes to any of the screening questions you are isolated until either you get a negative COVID test or you are symptom free for 3 days. Anyone who has ever had a child knows a cold nearly always comes after the first month in school. Now a cough means you may be positive for COVID. Is going to football practice worth a parent taking a day off of work for the kid to get tested?

It is the day in which we live of course. I am glad I am only officiating and not a coach or AD.

Acting as hockey director for our district this been more difficult this year than any other.

And teaching at the college via distance is twice the work.

Thankfully my real job has been close to normal.

It must be St. Cloud.....of the 6 games (of 150+) canceled this weekend Apollo and Tech are two of them.

Nice game for Bemidji, a non traditional football opponent and a 5A vs 6A crossover game. I am glad they could both play instead of being idle.

Good Lord it will be cold.
