Pretty big news for the College Hockey offseason.

Any thoughts on Eades? Does he want to leave Warroad to go back to UND?

UND

Post by Eddie Shore »

The early favorite would be Scott Sandelin from UMD, but I think it's doubtful he would leave the program he's built in Duluth.

That leaves Hakstol, the current top assistant and Steve Johnson from Lincoln as the top candidates. Eades is a long shot, at best. I'm sure Eades would leave Warroad for the UND job (who wouldn't), but I don't see an offer forthcoming.

Best of luck to Coach Blais. He's had a nice run.

Harrington?

Post by 2ahockeydude »

Is there any chance John Harrington from SJU might take a look at it? I know he's come close at both UMD and Alaska when there were openings there... Just curious.

Maybe he should be called Eddie Money

Eddie Shore hit that one out of the park. He's got the front runners right with Hakstol & Johnson. Eades will make the starting gate but has to be considered a long shot in this field. I think he's got the skill sets and pedigree for the job I just think he stayed in the high school level too long. These are going to be some big shoes to fill. Izzy will cream if ol' Laker buddy Steve gets the job..he'll think he may have some input...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes"> ...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... smokin.gif ALT=":smokin">

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ams1981 at: 6/25/04 1:21 pm

I had no Idea Chris Vandevlde commited to the UND. Hopefully he changes his mind. In his own words "I just really like the coaches and the facility." Hopefully the Englestad arena is a good enough reason to play hockey for UND, because the coach is no longer there.

Eddie, I can only hope and pray that Sandelin stays with UMD. He's rebuilt the mess left over when Sertich left and, for a change, the future looks bright for the Bulldog faithful.

Lee

Harrringon.... yes, he would look at it. He feels he's D1 material. His production at the DIII level is good. His only weakness is his lack of D1 or USHL level experience (DIII is looked at below Juniors, as the recruiting and talent evaluation job requiremetns aren't there). However, would he pass on it at this time due to his son being an upperclassman at MN now? I don't think so, but it may weigh into his decision making.

HS to D1... Eades, I doubt that Eades could make it into the finals as a head coach candidate. Asst maybe. but not head.

next coach at und will be none of the above. look for someone presently or in the past that has done work at ssm to be a strong candidate...

Next Coach

Post by juniorhockey »

On KFAN they had the Grand Forks guy who follows the team for the paper on.

He felt that they would hire from within for sure. He stated that if they choose to hire from outside, they had to post the job for a month before naming a new Head Coach. He went on to say that with it already being nearly July, the time table would not benefit them posting it, but rather hiring from within.

Just what he said.

the recruiting work has already been done for the next year. it is very important to new and existing players to get someone onboard asap but also very important to get the right person. the asst coaches do a lot of the recruiting work but und needs a coach that can keep things at the level they have come to expect. I think they will look outside for that right person.

FSN prediction

Post by rams1981 »

I saw a blurb on this on FSN Sports Friday night they were claiming Sandelien was the front runner. Huge blow for the Dawg faithful if it proves to hold true....Although Virg Foss in an article in the Grand Forks Herald says Blais is recommending Hakstol for the position and he has been named interm head coach until the UND president gets back from Italy in a couple of weeks and discusses the situation with the AD.....<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... smokin.gif ALT=":smokin">

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ams1981 at: 6/28/04 1:06 pm

bdabbt75 forgets

I believe Coach Blais basically came out of the HS ranks. First at Minot and ultimately Roseau winning the crown in '90. With a few other stops along the way. He did spend a season as a national assistant prior to going to UND, correct? So, it can be done; you seem to forget Coach Eades has both a Junior National Championship as a head-coach as well as a Div I National title as an Assistant at UND and three Class A titles in 11 years. I do as I said in my last post think he's been at Warroad too long to be considered, five years ago he would have been a top three choice...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... smokin.gif ALT=":smokin">

I agree a hs coach can move on and do a great job. Case in point is Murray for the LA Kings. Eades has got to make his move soon or he won't ever have a chance of moving up the ladder. I am not sure that UND will give him much of a chance at head coach but if he wants to improve himself he may settle for a asst. coach and then land a head coaching spot in a few years.
I think Duluth is going to keep their head coach for now. Scott likes Duluth and they like him.

Sandellin

Post by hocke101 »

I agree that he likes Duluth but it is hard to pass up one of the probably three top jobs in the country where he would get more money and have many other perks that ND has. With it being his alma matter and with such nice facilities and easier recruiting I just cant see him passing up the offer.
