Looking for ideas on a over 30 tourney.

Post by hockeysense »

I have a bunch of beer league buddies that would like to get in a over 30 tourney sometime in March or April. (most of us are over 40) Can anyone provide me with any info on some well ran/fun tournaments located in MN, ND or Winnipeg area?

Lee- Just trying to help the guy out, it is a great event, usually two or three teams from Duluth in the Open Division.

I have not but I do know a number of guys that do and I have gone up and watched a couple of times. I got kicked out of every no-check tourney I ever played in.

Rochester has a Return of the Robin tournament in early april has about 30 teams. Norm Fitch runs it I think. Call the Rec Center tue-sat after 4pm and I'm sure Ed can get you in touch with whomever you need.

Goldy's return

Post by Stitch Lips »

Goldy ... you play in the Return of the Robin Tourney? I have played in that tournament many times. Very fun and well run.

I actually play in two divisions when I go down there. One division is competative and with much younger players than myself. The other is the "fossil division" which is a lot of fun also.

I spent a lot of time in Rochester this year at Mayo and St. Mary's. Best run medical facility in the word bar none. Wouldn't have it any other way for my family members. Can see why King Hussein and other world leaders/celebrities go there.

Too much road construction though. Like a war zone there.

Later,

(lippy)

I've never played in the Robin, but reffed in it for many years, 10-12 I'd guess. I hung up the skates a few years ago when I got the tip of my finger caught in a face mask and degloved on Saturday afternoon. Then got thrown up on Sunday morning. A guy went down in a heap we thought he might be hurt so stopped play, I went over to help him up and Blah, he blew chunks all over my legs and skates. Worst part was I stilll had 2 more games to do. I really liked doing the games, but it just became a young mans game doing that competitive division. Maybe next year I'll get back into it, this year I'll be golfing in Arizona

The Robin is a great tourney, the Saturday night party is the best of the year. I probably looked forwards to that more than anything else.

Like just about everybody else in this town I work for Mayo, thanks for the nice words. We try to make it that way for everyone, King or not.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... oldy313 at: 1/15/06 8:02 am

So I'm sure we crossed paths, possibly on the ice while you were reffing ... or very possibly at the Holiday Inn downtown during the Saturday night party.

Were you there this past tournament when that guy rode his bike in the pond near the banquet room?

Great laughs for everyone!

As far as Mayo and St. Mary's etc., you guys run a top notch show and you do treat all your patients like Kings.

I usually stay at the Kahler Grand Hotel or the Hilton Garden Inn when down there (for medical, not hockey).

You wouldn't happen to know Bill Carrol by any chance, his son played for one of the Mayo Schools in the 70's or early 80's.
