Cloquet Mexican restaurant

Post by east hockey »

Wifey and I have been hearing about this place called Mexico Lindo which opened up something like a year ago in Cloquet. Any experiences with that place? In Duluth, we like Hacienda del Sol a lot, are lukewarm on Maya (in the old Godfather Pizza place across from the Miller Mall) and are fairly negative on Baja Billy's. We're in need of another good Mexi restaurant and folks we've talked to said this is a very good place to eat.

Lee
____________
Message Board arsonist since 2005
Egomaniac since 2006

Can't imagine driving to Cloquet if you are close to Hacienda del Sol.

On our occasional trips from the Twin Cities to places up the shore we always contrive to visit Hacienda del Sol.

Mexico Lindo is very good, not very spicy, but good. Good service. I try to hit there once a week.

I also heard that Mexico Lindo is buying out Maya in Duluth. Don't know if it's for sure, but heard it through the grapevine.
Much Love
-Cloquet

Okay, we went there last Friday after work; I'm going to compare it to the Hacienda del Sol because that's what I consider to be the "benchmark" of Duluth-area Mexican food.

Service: Lindo is better than the HDS. More friendly. Not to say that it's bad at HDS but they seem to really try at Lindo.

Food quality: Edge to HDS. For my money, you can't beat their beef enchiladas. Better still, when you order they give you the option of mild, medium and CALIENTE! And I always get it caliente.

Variety: Lindo has a huge selection on their menu. In fact, I can't remember a Mexican restaurant in this area or any area I've ever been that comes close to the choices Lindo has. Very nice.

Price: Lindo gets the edge here. I walked out of the place pretty stuffed for well under ten bucks.

Atmosphere: Neither place has a great atmosphere but I prefer the HDS. It's darker and I prefer a dimly lit place to brightly lit. On the other hand, Lindo seems cleaner.

Overall: I give the edge to Hacienda del Sol but it's not a blowout. Lindo is now my second favorite Mexi eatery in this area; not that the competition is huge from other places (yes, I'm specifically talking about Little Angies)

Anyway, that's my take on it. Overall, a very good choice.

Lee
____________
Message Board arsonist since 2005
Egomaniac since 2006

It's kinda like when CEC beats East, but East moves up in the PS2 rankings because they lost to a quality opponent and CEC goes down because they didn't win by enough goals!
97X...BAM!!!...The future of Rock-n-Roll.

Quote:
you gave lindo 3 and hds 2 how his hds better?

Easy. Not all factors are weighted the same. Quality of food trumps any other single factor. The edge in service and price which I gave Lindo was less important than the edge in food quality and atmosphere. This is why, even considering the price, I'll take places such as the Pickwick over, say, Timberlodge. I'll take Blackwoods over Applebee's. And so forth.

To put a hockey analogy to this, Cloquet might have more wins than East, but they lost twice to Rapids. That's brutal

(Majin, you didn't think I was gonna ignore that one, didya? )

Ask GR19. I think I'll quit this thread while it's still a tie. Otherwise it would go the route of:
Cloquet: CEC owns East the last few years
East: At least East has been to state the last 3 years
Cloquet: At least we're not cake eaters!
East: Probably because you can't afford it!
Cloquet: Hey that's not fair!
East: Here's a quarter, call somebody who cares
Cloquet: Well now you're just being mean
East: I'm from Duluth East, what did you expect?
97X...BAM!!!...The future of Rock-n-Roll.
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... y at: 2/6/06 11:01 pm

Lee, if/when, you are in Bemidji, I will take you to TJuans and I'll treat. I do not know how it compares with others, but it seems to attract a following.
