WHAT WAS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE SIGHT AT 04 TOURNEY

thanks ptown..ha i gotta say it was one of my most memorable too...i tell ya..those hotel managers.. I would have to say though after looking back..that my most memorable thing would probably have to be watching the little highlight reel they always play with "good riddance (time of your life)" at the conclusion of the AA championship..they just show all these little clips of games over the last 4 days, and it just seems to signify wat the tournament is all about. whether your a player and it shows the cameraderie and importance, or just a fan and it shows why indeed you make the trip down to see these high school kids play the game..just a GREAT clip that they showed...

I Liked the move after a save against Wyzata and he skates out and places the puck on the face off dot! The game needs personalities and he was one of them. Too bad he was a senior.

sorry but thats called showing up the other team. stutz made a save, great act like you've made a save before and give the puck to a ref.

I agree with centerman. If you knew the kid these comments wouldn't be made. Everyone I know commented how humble he was when interviewed on TV. In fact his teammates wish he would take a little more credit.

I agree that it is showing up the other team. But big deal. Since when is that a bad thing. It's no different than celebrating after a goal. Not to mention it takes a lot of guts to act like that during a state tournament game- both winking at the fans and skating the puck to the dot. Just think of the abuse he was setting himself up for, from the Wyzata fans, had Miller scored on that break away. Being a goalie, every time he gave up a goal (which of course didn't happen during the tournament, but during the rest of the season) he had to listen to other fans doing a sieve chant and yell about his hair. So tell me why he shouldn't have dished it back when he got the chance?

Give me a cocky goalie anytime! Especially at that position I want a goalie that has as much confidence as he can get. If he comes off as cocky, fine with me. Frankly, I'll take that attitude at any other position too. I have seen a lot of complaints since the tournament about cocky players. First, you have to know more about a player than what you get by watching them in a game or two in order to determine if they should be classified as "cocky" in any negative way. A goalie winking at the crowd tells me that he's confident, relaxed, or maybe he feeds off a crowd that gets upset with him. Maybe he has a great sense of humor, whatever his motivation, I like it. Looking at tapes of the games I saw several of the better players grinning or laughing after failed attempts to score, or after getting taken out of a play, while others showed frustration. That laughing player shows me that they are well aware of what happend and probably know what they should have done or what they will do next time, or they appreciate the other player's move that stopped them. They are showing confidence and maturity to me.

atthepoint is spot on with this one. Goalie's need confidence like golfers do! Basically, you "think therefore you are", a confident goalie stops shots because they think they can. Stutz had been listening to Wayz fans rip on his hair the whole period, and frankly, it was the 2nd period of that game (he was a little bored), it isn't showing up the team either. It's just a gesture to the other team's fans! Lighten up people. Stutz was having fun. Sucks to be anyone they had to play!

I too saw the 2 girls from Wayzata. I'm glad they sat at my end of the rink for 2 games. As far a Stutz placing the puck on the face off dot. If you rmember the situation, it was right after a save and things got a little fiesty in the crease. He simply got out of the mess rather then get involved. Placed the puck on the dot and moved on. I know a few goalies who would have stayed in the mess and mixed it up a little. I would take a goalie like Stutz on my team any day.

Breck and Centennial were the best two teams in the state this year. Most years the single a champ and double a champ will not be the best two teams. This year they were and its a shame they didn't get to play. The shutout streak would be over, as I feel Breck is the best offensive team in the state. However Centennial is the most balanced team in the state. To close to call. My guess: 4 - 3 one way or the other! Would have made for an unreal hockey game. Could you imagine some scoring (unlike the games this year in double NHL) and all the people in the excel cheering for Centennial because they are the public school team! A made for T.V. special!!!!!! The only thing better would be a Centennial vs Totino Grace match up next year. They don't like eachother. And both will be very good!!!

Breck was the best single A team! They Chose to play at the level. Centennial won the Big Tourney and proved to be the Best Team. 8-0 vs. teams ranked #2-#5 while only giving up 10 goals. The three shutouts were against three teams just as high powered if not more than Breck offensively. Centennial did most of this without Ryan Flynn 68 points and Mr. Hockey Gorowsky at far less than 100%! Centennial State Hockey Champs 2004!

In recaping, I would say that one if not they most memorable sights for me at this years tourney was during the 3rd place ceremony/awards when all the Hibbing players went up to receive a 3rd place medal for one of their teammates who had been injured and taken out on a stretcher. That was truely team unity and inspirational seeing the whole team skate out and accept his medal on their behalf. It is too bad that this moment was not televised because it really was something special!

though there were many amzing moments at this years tournament, i'd have to say that my favorite was the singing of the national anthem before the centennial-moorehead game. When i looked over the 17,000+ fans standing on their feet facing the flag, and the players all lined up on the ice, the monent was absolutely electric. Whoever that girl was that sung it did an awesome job. Watching every one of moorehead's spectacular goals in the semi from eight rows off the ice, after standing for the whole centennial semi, was my second favorite experience.

Not so much a memory, but something I cant forget took place in the Warroad game where their goalie got ran over like 3 plays in a row, and the one time he got his head bashed on the post with no helmet on. I have now had time to reflect on the state tournament, and what it means to the parents, school, and community to win the state championship. All my life you hear from former players what a thrill it is to play in the state tournament, but as a parent, I never really thought much of it, because the chances are so slim that your son will ever make it there anyway. Now that it is all over, and they actually won the whole thing, it is an unbelievable memory to have. Seeing your kid introduced on the big screen, knowing the games are televised, your son playing to a packed house, having people come up to you that you don't even know and telling you, "Your kid is playing great!" And the way the community and school supported our team are wonderful memories that I will always cherish. To have that much fan support was incredible. We had fans camped out overnight at Centennial High School to get tickets. They had fish houses and tents up to try to stay warm. Some generous person had free pizzas delivered on Friday night to the fans waiting in line for tickets. Once the tournament was over, my son was inundated with dinner offers, post pep rallies, visits to their elementary school, congratulatory cards from young children, a trip to the state capitol, etc. It is still going on! I’m sure years down the road I will stick in the tape of the championship game and be in awe that my son is out there playing in the AA state championship game. Now, for all you hockey parents whose sons have never made it to the big show, don’t fret. My husband and I were talking last night about our best hockey game memory so far, and believe it or not, it is not winning the state championship, but winning a game in overtime at regions to go onto state when our son was a peewee. We were trying to contemplate why this was. Because it was the first time our kid had ever gone to state? Because the year before they had lost their first two region games and were kicked out? Because we had a mom battling breast cancer who was able to attend the game? We may never know why that game is such a wonderful memory in our minds, but looking back on the whole hockey experience our son has had, all I can say is, “Wow, what a fantastic journey.” Hope you all have a great summer and don’t experience hockey withdrawals too much before the season starts up again!

My favorite memory of '04 would have to be the SSP Breck Game, or the final minute and a half of the Moorhead Centennial. The amazing saves and plays out of Stalock and the rumble of the crowd not wanting the championship game to end are two things I will remember always.

I know it is condemnded on this board..but where was the craziest party goin on this year? though it can be argued, it is an itegral part of the tourney, regardless of what anyone says. THE BEST part of the tournament was when they played the highlights after cent/moorhead, along with "time of your life", what an ideal ending to an almost ideal tournament. it made grown men cry, and was just a phenomenol moment in this state tournament.
