Surprised this wasn't touched on yet, but the Iron Range beat the Duluth area last night 5-1 in Grand Rapids.

Tonight's game is at the DECC. The game ended in a 5-5 tie I believe and the Iron Range got the Stewart Cup. T.J Oshie was the MVP and got a free pair of any Reebok or CCM skates. The Iron Range won the skills competition .

Skills Competition

Matt Niskanen won the hardest shot competition with a 92 MPH shot. Kyle Shmidt for Hermantown got quickest skater around rink. Poderzay won the shootout thing.

mitch ryan and i think bordson of the duluth team split the accuracy. The range had some pretty good kids but then again some questionables. i wasnt that impressed by the babiches and some of their other players and who was saeland for duluth, im from the area and never heard of him. On the other hand i thought brodeen looked real good, thought he would win the quickest skater. Where is he playing next year? On a final note it was nice to see Mitch ryan and rob johnson on a line instead of battling against each other.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Saeland is a kid from Cloquet, funny you brought him up because he absolutely rocked some kid. Anyone who was watching the game had to have seen it and the whole crowd went "OOoooh". It was pretty nice, kid should have been looking up when he was skating into the defensive zone.

How do the Warroad players fit into the Range Team? I did not understand that part of it.

The explanation it that it was a tradeoff. Since Superior was allowed with the "Duluth" teams, Warroad was allowed with the "Iron Range" teams.

My take? It was to sell more tickets. Who wouldn't have wanted to see Oshie? I know I was aware of whenever he was on the ice. When I wasn't manning my camera, that is.

Now, as to the "tradeoff" (Warroad vs. Superior), I've addressed that and made Ciskie growl...heh heh.

Lee
____________
Message Board arsonist since 2005

Scam

I agree with Lee. It was to sell more tickets and also to attract more scouts to the game. This game hs become more about the people running and less about the kids playing in it. I know the Iron Range coaches will not nominate anymore players if the current set up is still there next year. They will put on their own game instead of feeding the pockets of Kern.

Range should have won it, not ended in a tie, but great to watch. Poderzay was in nets halfway through it was 5-2, and they put in the I falls goalie, loche, and he let in 3 goals, he didnt look very good. Oshie 2 goals, and he had a few VERY good scoring chances at the end to win it. Didnt put in the breakaway, and him and brodeen and a 2-1 and couldnt put it past paul. but all in all, a good night for hockey

Ok nothin against the kid, he's had a great career and i'm sure he'll do good at umd, i also know this was an all-star game, but i thought for someone who is going straight too college and not going to any junior team that he would stick out a little more not sayin he didn't play good, but i figured he would shine maybe a little brighter then the rest.obviously the 92 mph slapshot was pretty impressive, but as an on looker i figured too see a little more out of him.
