Breden

Post by old time hockey »

SB has the weakest schedule in the state. Even if Breden was a halfway decent player, he still hasn't ever been tested. The kid is too small and not good enough to go D-1, let alone D-3.

Nate Breden is a very good hockey player, perhaps good enough to play at the next level. He'll never win Mr. Hockey, though, because of the quality of competition he faces... He may not even be a finalist for that very same reason.

I suspect his point total will drop off next year because he will lose a valuable set up man in defenseman Jesse Downey from this year's team. Taking a guy away that assisted on more than half of your goals, and scored a host of goals that you set up will have an effect on the stats. Not to mention he was one of the few defenseman who could initiate the transition from defense to offense on that team. The Mariner's might be spending more time in the defensive zone than last year due to Downey's graduation which could also contribute to a decline in Breden's final point totals.

Although, since the overwhelming majority of the teams they faced last year were seeded 5th or lower in their section, its hard to imagine spending any time in the defensive zone.

Another note: Downey finished the regular season with one more point than Virginia/MI-B's Matt Niskanen, but he was never mentioned in any conversations for Mr. Hockey or D-I recruiting. This is the kind of obstacle Breden has to overcome.
