I'm a WBL fan, but have to agree with greyhound. East beat WBL twice and East should have a better final ranking.

1) AHA
2) Moorhead
3) Duluth East
4) WBL
5) Jefferson

I'd have a tough time rating the others.

power92,

you said STA had a cakewalk into the state tourney.

They barely beat NORTHFIELD in the section semi finals (it was a one goal game until about 6 minutes left in the 3rd period) and then beat Lourdes 2-1 in double overtime.

I'd say they struggled to get into the state tourney.

Based on that, their overall record, and their placement in the rankings throughout the year, I wouldn't put STA in the top ten but more like #15.

They are not the team that Albert Lea was.

You know what, come play in 5a with all the other privates Lourdes and STA MIGHT be a 5 and 6 seed. Its easy to look good vs. SPA, Minnehaha, SPring lake park., sibley, do I need to continue?
Actually I won't because I'm sure there will be plenty of excuses.
CUBYE

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... power92 at: 3/15/05 4:58 pm

5A

Post by MNPuckster27 » Tue Mar 15, 2005 4:55 pm

Why would they do that? Their schools are no where near the 5A schools? You do know that sections are alligned geographically right?

Is that why Mahtomedi is in 5a and richfield isn't. It's not geagraphic. What about Minnehaha Academy? They are a mpls private school why aren't they in 5a. An argument could be made that TG shouldn't be in 5a if you are looking at geography. Why is Orono in the same section as Shakopee and New Prague is that geographically right? Class Asections are a mess.
pull your head out.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... power92 at: 3/15/05 5:05 pm

LHS, 5a and STA

power 92 and oldtyme

Classy response...just because you are anonymous on the board, you can hide behind your classless posts...

Obviously 5a is a very strong section and has been for awhile. Lourdes played Blake and Totino Grace competitively this year losing 3-2 and 4-2 respectively.

STA had a good team this year, not a great team. They beat Lourdes 5-2 (eng) and 2-1 in the section championship. The last game could have gone either way.

Sorry Roch, Puckter27 got me fired up with his/her ingorance. My main point which is at the end of my rant is, the sections in class A are really messed up. It doesn't seem like anything will be done anytime soon.

I agree, as always that Mahtomedi in 5A is stupid, but they arent a private school so it doesnt apply to your point. 6A is more SW suburbs where as 5A is more northern. Mahtomedi should be in 3A, and Minnehaha is more eastern than the rest of the 5A teams. There is really no case that can be made to move any of the 5A private powers to be moved out of 5A, because they are so close geographically, its just unfortunate that they are all so good and only one can win.

And I agree class A sections are a little messed up, I've never disagreed with that, i'm just saying geographically speaking. Totino, Blake, Breck, and if Benilde is ever in class A again, they will all always be in the same section.

And how was I ignorant? All I did was say that STA and Lourdes are nowhere near section 5A in geography.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... kster27 at: 3/15/05 5:17 pm

the Blake school is 5 minutes from minnehaha. ABout 10 to Richfield. And Orono is not a SW suburb.
Maybe you just don't know the cities that well. Truce.

Yes and it is a 5 minute drive from Tartan HS to Hill-Murray HS and they are in different sections. Jefferson HS to AHA, 5 minutes. The thing is they have to fill out each section ya know. Starting from the SE corner, who would be a better fit in 3A than Minnehaha? (Well, besides Mahtomedi, which we both agree on). And Orono is further west that the 5A privates, putting them in 6A.

I hear what you are saying about Class A sections being messed up, and its not just 5A, but all over the state. I just dont think the MSHSL cares about private/public or good programs/bad programs when they make the sections. Maybe they should...... but they dont.

Just curious, what 5A school could make the best case for a move to 6A? It looks like that section could be down soon.

sta

Sta is atleast a top 7 team in state, the loses they had were all against good teams despite the first Greenway game, and even then they destroyed them in the cities, but 2 games to hill, split series with tartan, one to orono, 2 to a good nsp team, and 1 to richfield who i might add has an unreal goalie who played out of his mind that night, sta is a good team they crushed virginia, and gave warroad a decent game, but c'mon whose not a little intimidated by warroad they hadn't lost a period all year, and then a little discouraged gave a good marshall team a 3-1 game, i'd say they could beat albert lea, and give blake a good run for their money too.they are young and are going to be good next year as well. 2 years ago they could only win 2 games, and now they almost get 20 give them somme credit
