Benilde

Post by hockeyxprt » Mon Mar 14, 2005 11:22 am

First of all, McCarthy graduated. Second, I think BSM might hold their own in 6AA next year. Rumor has it, there are several kids considering transfering to Benilde because of their coaching staff and the fact that they are now playing with the big boys. I predict they will be right up there with Jefferson, Edina and Eden Prarie.

I don't know a lot of people who like the benilde coaching staff, first of all. Second of all, they're losing a lot of good seniors and I just don't think they'll do great. They might be OK, but just not great.

whats wrong with benildes coaching staff? Darby Hendricksons dad is the head coach, and Andrew Brunette is the assistant. What is not to like about those coaches.
The curse lives on.....

I understand Hendrickson has coached, but why do people assume that Brunette can coach. He's in the NHL but that doesn't mean he can coach.

Blatherwick

Post by hockeyxprt » Tue Mar 15, 2005 7:06 am

The ironic thing is that Blatherwick is leaving Benilde. It sounds like they wanted to bring in some other coaches, including the trainer for the Wild?? I agree though, Blatherwick is the backbone behind BSM's success over the years.

I honestly do not know. Speculation is that he might join Pauly at Minnetonka, but I'm not sure.

Maybe a whole new staff at BSM for 2005-2006? One of the reasons Hendrickson took the job was to work with Cardiac Jack. If he leaves it may be a sign that there is more going on behind the scenes. At most, I would expect Hendrickson to be around one more year. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

Blatherwick

Post by hockeyxprt » Tue Mar 15, 2005 11:24 am

That surprised me too, I thought Hendrickson and Blatherwick were old buddies. But apparently, it was Hendrickson who pushed Blatherwick out (even though Blatherwick resigned) to make room for other assistant coaches that he liked, including this trainer?? from the Wild. Kind of a head scratcher being that Blatherwick is such a great hockey guy and coach.

Really don't see the strength coach from the Wild doing much there. It's not like they sit on their a%$es waiting to train HS teams. Think a lot is rumor.
But Blather leaving? Wow, wonder whats going on. I heard Hendrickson was a hard ass, but I think Jack is a little more established than Larry. Question, where has Hendrickson coached previously?( Please excuse my ignorance.)

Hendickson

Post by hockeyxprt » Tue Mar 15, 2005 11:42 am

He coached at Richfield back in the 80's but more recently at Apple Valley where he won a state title in ~1996. The last few years, I think he has been out of coaching (at least at the high school level).

I'm pretty sure he was the head coach. I also think he was only there for 1 year but I'm not totally sure.

Hendrickson's coaching experience runs rather deep. He has coached at Richfield, Apple Valley and Buffalo, prior to BSM. Also, worked closely with Brooks at the U, with the '80 Olympic team and the North Stars.

Also runs the summer programs at Hermantown and BSM, and has in Buffalo the past three summers. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

puckguy...that is deep indeed! did hendrickson ever couple up with craig sarner? it seems that craig has been putting on mileage as well through the years. he now established with tri-star, of course and coaches an elite team in the fall. he popped up everywhere during sections. he was watching the benilde v breck game close. maybe he was really watching the bench?

NPGD: I have no doubt every time Sarner is in the building that he is watching the bench, and envisioning it being "his" bench. When the coaching moves post pops up, or rather hits full steam I would imagine we'll see his name quite a bit. Probably not Duluth Central or Pine City or Cambridge, but maybe Andover. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

Coach Sarner has bounced around quite a bit since the 2000-01 season. Park Center for 1 season, Orono for the following summer, Burnsville JV for a season, Eden Prairie for a coffee stop (who really knows what that was about???). He also looked into the Hopkins position. Hendrickson and Sarner are like peas in a pod - SCARY!

From what I have heard - Blatherwick is going to Jefferson. The word on the street is that their highly touted soon-to-be Junior defenseman said that he would follow Jack where ever he goes.

Does that mean that he is going back to Jefferson so he can be with Levine and Blatherwick?

Also heard that Chris Bonvino (former Edina and North Dakota player) long time Edina PWA coach is stepping in as an assistant at Benilde.

You see Sarner at all of the rinks because that is his job. He is a player scout for Montreal and he is assigned to watch high school players and undrafted junior players. Since he is a coach for the Elite league, he needs to watch players in the area for his team too.

He has a lot of coaching talent and I would guess that you will see him behind a Junior A or D3 bench before he takes a HS job.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... khead63 at: 3/16/05 10:45 am
