our cloquet team handled hibbing yesterday by 9 or 10 goals. grand Rapids beat wildcats 8-3. Wild handed Edina (Green) a 6-1 loss. heard that the Wild beat Grand Rapids 3-1 in final tonite. That's only a few of he games. Loved the penalty format, they went with USA hockey style of penalty shots in place of serving penalties.

Thanks for the updates. Interesting that they used that penalty format.

Wildcats (Girls from West Fargo, Moorhead, Crookston, GrandForks, TRF, and a few others) Beat Edina (Green) 4-3 yesterday and beat one of the Wild teams 5-4 today. Excellent tourney was fun for all, neat penalty format. Only thing that was missing was the posting of the scores from the other games. Grand Rapids, nice town and very nice ice arena.

Way to go, Wildcats! I understand they are a group of girls that have just come together for a couple tourneys and due to distance did not have any practices together.

Thanks for the additional update.

Agree with all written after watching 90 % of the games this weekend some players Standing out to me were as follows, Kent, Hollway, Schmid, Gallop, Nicole Jones, Lexy Wangen, Danielle Justice, Ashley Holmes, Arola, Sadie Lundquist Jamie Fenstermacher, Kay Collier.
Missing form the mix was Emily Erickson gone to the State Softball Tournament.

From GRG, Molly Arola impressed me the most. She played strong on her feet and very cleanly physical. She shot hard and where she wanted to and she passed the puck very crisply. Much of the same could be said for Dana Gallop. Kayla Clafton and Heather Horgen looked pretty good defensively the first two games. And of course, Sadie Lundquist from CEC looked outstanding. Of the girls I saw, Arola and Lundquist looked top notch. And everything that Media wrote is 100% accurate as well.

Good to know! I understand that the Edina team mixed in some Varsity, JV and U14A players into two teams and won 4 of 6 games. Does Edina look good enough to contend this year and did anyone from Edina stand out?

Edina could contend. They outskated GRG heavily on Sunday afternoon.

Should be a hell of a season--hope we can see them at the X again. It'd be nice to have them win a couple there, too! Go Lightning!

There are a lot of ? mark on this team to begin the year. However, returning many mainstays from the previous seasons, I see the Lightning having great success this season.

Ah, what a beautiful, crisp, hockey morning. Opening day of practices. GRG will be without Morgan Illikainen (Cross Country), Markie DeGrio (Cross Country), and Molly Illikainen (Swimming) for at least a week or possibly more. Can't wait to get this train moving for 07-08.

Does anyone know what if the Illikanen girls played AAA this summer?

Lightning go 4-0 in weekend one scrimmages with out DeGrio or the Illikainens. Those scrimmages were against Spring Lake Park, Champlin Park, Woodbury, and St. Francis. This weekend they will head to the Hibbing scrimmages and face Buffalo, Chisago Lakes, Moundsview, and Hibbing.

Gunderson holding out for contract extension?

Post by titleist » Fri Nov 09, 2007 11:05 pm

Rumor down here in the cities is heard saying that the Scotty Bowman of Girls Hockey is holding out for a new contract. Something to the fact, that he's the brains of the operation and should be paid accordingly. Apparently he's getting offers from alot of eastern universities seeking his knowledge of not only hockey, but pep band material. Can anyone up there dis-spell the rumors?

Lightning looked good today. They defeated St. Francis 1-0 and Hibbing 3-1. Lightning goals from Arola (2), Rasmussen, Stumo. Horgen and Clafton looked very good. Arola and Gallop looked superb offensively. Havel=brick wall.

Awesome weekend of games. I think the Lightning will play very well both nights, but come out with a split. They will play two VERY good teams, but I think we will begin to find out that the Lightning are also a VERY good team. Here is what I think:

Lightning 5, WBL 2
Roseville 5, Lightning 3

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Absolutely love the thought. It very well could happen. Health and stamina will be a big part of this weekend. Too bad I can't get to either one of these. Hopefully Tuesday.

Boblee, I consulted with my crystal puck AND my magic 8-puck - they both concurred with great competition but GRG coming out on top.
