Walker- Favorite for 8a?

Post by RoudyRoofis » Wed Nov 28, 2007 10:03 pm

I hear that Walker has some huge recruits that within the next year will come over the top of a declining Warroad team? They may be rumors, but the person who told me this is a well respected hockey analyst throughout Minnesota.

I wouldnt put it past them to be decent within the next 3 years but to say they would walk around or even beat Warroad is a bit of a stretch.

If they move Marvin Windows down there and give the recruits parent's a job I think there might be some truth to this.

Here's a fun fact...out of the @ 15 guys that will play regularly for the Warriors this season there are only 5 or 6 parents out of 30 moms & dads that work at Marvin Windows. People seem to think the entire teams parents work there when in fact, it's a pretty low percentage. The Marvin's themselves have no real connection to the players they are kind of in between generations another 7 - 8 years that may be a different story as they are starting to graduate from college or are getting tired of the metro scene and are moving back to Warroad. Tell me why does every section 8A thread turn into a Warroad this or Warroad that thread...I'll tell you....who else is there really to talk about....PR?

17 percent from one employer is high.
Most communities would be high at 10 perecnt.
But why is that a consideration. For Warroad, economically, it is a lot of eggs in one basket.
For hockey, not a bad thing to have a large business that is hockey friendly. I think most of us like to have a hcokey friendly community.

Recruitment of players...
not allowed by the MSHSL so that cannot be a reason.

But back to Walker...

Not too likely that they will be a contender for a while.

Elliott....I'm curious where you get your percentage of 10%. As for the 17% that work at Marvin's I'd have to say that's pretty low when you consider the size of the population versus how much of that population works in the big yellow buildings. As for having all their eggs in one basket I would have to say it's one of the stronger woven basket I've seen around. I've started to hear rumblings that the big basket 22 miles west is starting to unravel just a bit.

Anyway...we all know this is a fishing expedition of a thread and Roofus used poor bait. :)

UHL - for Warroad I would agree a low %.
The 10% would be 3 parents of 30 from the same employer in one HS team. Maybe not for some of our small northern communities, but on average 3 of 30 would be avg to high (not counting homemaker as a common employer). The exception maybe from a school district.

Yes, I agree, a nice basket, and yes, I have heard some things about the western employer. And the union people 100 miles east probably think the window-makers look good, too.

As for the fishing, kinda like the guy ice fishing in the arena...
not gettin' any bites. :D
