hockey arena pics?

I've heard that the Duluth Heritage Arena was recently competed. If anyone has some pictures of the inside I'm sure many people would enjoy seeing this new rink...

Wow, the old Warroad arena must have been like playing in a tunnel. Were those wood rafters up there?

It was about the same as the Roseau rink as far as the rafters and size go. Main differences were that there was a lot of seating on the west end of the rink and along the north side, where now Roseau's has seating on all but the lobby end. The players boxes and penalty box were all on the south side. It was quite a place to play, not tunnel like at all actually.

Actually, the old Warroad arena and Roseau Memorial weren't much alike besides the general shape of the building. The logs in the old garden ceiling weren't even peeled. Bark was still falling to the ice in the 80's. It was dark in there and dirty.

Roseau Memorial had a finished ceiling and ceiling beams. Much nicer arena.

Ok "OldRam"...dark and dirty? not unless you were hiding like a troll under the bleachers. The ealier poster commented about the general shape of the building. Comparing it to the Old Roseau barn was a pretty close comparison...don't ya think?

I never did go under the bleachers, however, we always had to walk out of the locker rooms in groups, so we didn't get jumped on the way out.

You could barely see the ice in the east end when looking down through all the conduit for the lights.

You didn't go under the bleachers? You had to go under the bleachers to get to the front/bottom of the bleachers to climb up the bleachers to get high enough in the bleachers to be above the wiring for the lights...

What's wrong with having to walk out in groups? What kind of rivalry would it have been with out a little danger involved?

someone has to post pics of the old arena in downtown TRF. It is classic. 1/2 boards on one end of the rink, one bench door, posts right on the sides and fans lean right over the glass.

I knew you had to walk under the bleachers to get to the locker rooms and back. I meant off the rubber mats. You know... where all the light bulbs were broken. Right before the alley that led to Stu's Northland Tap.

It wouldn't have been so bad, but they always picked on the small guys like the Broten bros. They left the Foss and Stone brothers alone.

It was a long way to the east end to clean up the popcorn.

Wasn't the popcorn usually cleaned up by the Zamboni? I grew up thinking popcorn was Warroad's third line. That and a good 45 minute flash light show between periods was the only rest the guys that played ever got.

The arena attendant would walk very slowly to the other end to clean it up in the middle of the period. The zamboni never got the chance.

You also had to stop checking in the middle of the game because they would lay there for 5 minutes and get up laughing and high fiving in the box.

The book mentioned a few pages back is titled Minnesota Ice Arenas (creative, eh?) by Mike Kreiter. I teach and the book is in the library at my school. When my students are in Library, I always thumb through it. It has pics and some info about every arena in the state.[/u]

One of the nicer new rinks that I have been in is the St. Croix Rec center. home of the Stillwater Ponies. Very nicely put together with two sided seating. Beautiful facility to drive up to also.
