Because MN Hockey feels the need to "balance" the representation around the state instead of chosing the best players regardless of what community they play for, unfortunately not all 5 Falls players may advance. USA Hockey wants the best kids in MN but they don't always get them. If one community is really deep, some of the kids get left out which in my opinion is just wrong.

Some people know already based on where their team is in their district, since it is based on points gained in district play as to how many players you get invited to this try-out. But the kids may not have been told yet.

HMmmm.
Seems to be a little fallacy in this statement.

Elliot:

Chatting with the 93 parents after last year's tryouts, Doglover is right on with his comments. The MN Hockey and its Districts wanted to spead the love around. According to the parents, that this can only be the explanation for advancement of some players thru the MN U15 process. Of course, if you or I were not at the tryouts, we can not support these comments.

According to the parents....

The process is quite simple...

1. Coaches nominate their players to the district team.
2. The district coaches and evaluators pick the district team.
3. The district team participates in pre-jamboree games.
4. All teams play in the jamboree and are evaluated by independent staff.
5. The players are selected for St. Cloud
6. From St Cloud week players are selected by independent evaluators.

At no time does MH board stipulate that certain players come off of certain teams.

At one time, approximately 10 years ago, the St Cloud team was selected geographically with each area getting som many players.
The number so not reflect that anymore.

Politics, or bias, exists because every person has their own bias.

I prefer big, strong Dmen. You prefer quick little forwards.
And of course it is not perfect. Perfection (even though not completely possible) is expensive.

For the time and resources available the system works fairly well.

2 things need to be done to keep things from getting to "political" IMO. First the District coaches need to be rotated, they shouldn't get more than 2 years in the position...this will ensure that you don't get the same bias each season. The other is that it must be MANDATORY that ALL players get as close to the same playing time as possible in the Jamboree's. I've been hearing that some long time district coaches shorten the bench in an effort to win & showcase "their" players. This is just wrong....let's clean it up and get the integrity back in the process.

Districts pick the coaches and sometimes in someplaces it is hard to get people. But some type of rotation is important.

Coaches ARE MANDATED to rotate players, through PP and PK.
For the most part this happens. If it is noticed by the staff, they immediately address the problem.

Not to my knowledge.
Each district has their own process and some may post this information on their web sites.

I will check with Mike Snee and see if the 15 coach and manager for bouys and girls can be posted on minnesotahockey.org

May be a stupid question, but I don't know the answer. Is this program for 1994 born players, or players that are 15 years old. Basically, can a player who has not turned 15, but born in 94' be eligible for this program? I know the name changed from last year (select 15), did anything else?

How many of the Shattuck players can tryout? Isn't there only 1 or 2 from Minnesota?

I believe the rule is that they are all considered MN because they live on campus within MN.
But I know some have gone back to their home state to participate.
Mark Jacobs could probably give you a better answer.
