WBL goalies
who should play faust or hartzell?

Re: WBL goalies
i recently talked to one of hartzells neighbors and they said he has a rink in his back yard and if this is true he should be getting a lot better.

Re: WBL goalies
faust should get the bulk of the games but with some of the softer teams on white bear's schedule i would think that would be an opportunity to give faust a rest and prepare hartzell to take over next season.

Faust
All this talk about Reid Ellingson being the best goalie in the state--not so fast my friends. I have seen three better ones this year for sure. Reidar Jensen has really impressed me from Grand Rapids, Joe Phillipi from Hill-Murray I have seen a couple times, very, very impressive. However, Faust is the best. He controls rebounds after making the first save everytime. He plays so calm, cool, and collected. His coach gave him the goal of a 1.00 GAA or lower and a 95% save % or higher, and I bet he is going to do it.

_________________

BOB

Re: Faust
Faust is the most over rated goalie in the state. I played goalie at one time in my life and know plenty about the position to give my 2 cents. When I look at Faust I see a slightly above average goalie playing for a very good hockey team. Faust doesn't have to be great with rebounds because his defense is always there to clear them away and dose a fine job of keeping opposing players tied up in front of the net. Every time I see the knuckle head do his little dance after each goal, we all know - the twirling of the stick and spitting out water three times, I want to throw oranges at his ugle orange equipment and Steve Shields knockoff helmet. I'll take his backup over him and I haven't seen him play.

BR-

Some harsh words about Faust. Almost comes across as a jealously thing, or a ticked off parent.

When it comes down to it, hes a student...and kid. His coaches are around him a lot more then you are and I'm sure they are able to make that decision as who to play and when.

Don't be a hater man......as to quote Viking coach Mike Tice "Enjoy the season".<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/grin.gif ALT=" >D">
www.rebelhockey.com

Re: Faust
Faust is fundamentally sound. He plays his angles very well. I have never seen hartzel play, maybe he is better??

_________________

BOB

Re: Faust
really it is all hype. this kid has been hyped and over-hyped since he was a sophomore. white bear tends to pick a few guys each year to promote and the media is too ignorant or too lazy to see if half these guys are the real deal so they do the easy thing and perpetuate the hype. i have seen enough of faust's choke jobs to know better. he definitely can look good at times but his personality and play in big games leaves much to be desired. in the past 3 years i have seen him give clearing passes to the other team for easy goals, give up 100 and 175 foot goals, kick the puck in his own net, and countless times flop in big games giving up the deciding goal because he has a tendancy to go down right away. overall he is a good goalie but all-state, all-metro, frank brimsek??............i just don't see it.

Re: Faust
Don't forgot trying to clear the puck and it hitting the back of his defenders leg and going right back in his own net last year against Hill

brgoalie35-

agree totally..............most overrated and over-hyped.

heinekenkid21-

thanks for reminding me.........that too. come to think of it i've seen just about every bad goal or bone-headed play out of the kid.

you would hope at some point he would be humiliated enough to be humbled. apparently not enough to stop carrying on the way he does because wb scored a goal or beat park 9-0 again.

Re: Faust
Its not always the best goalie in the state that wins the Brimsek, I mean Richards wasnt even as good as Faust last year, and there were a couple goalies better than him.

Re: Faust
that is 100% correct iluvhockey but it is always the most hyped senior goalie who wins (is given) the brimsek.

Re: Faust
BRgoalie is being alittle rough, but after watching Faust for the last few years, i do think He is a little overrated. He will make some great saves during games, but He has a tendancy to give up soft ones at the most in opertune times. Also, He has always had a great Defense in front of Him that does cover up his rebounds. No disrepect to Hill, but Faust should have made that save tue. night, he made much tougher saves during the nite, it seems He loses concentration some times. He is a good golatender, and I wish the best for Him, I just don't know if WBL can go all the way with Him in the net. I would like to see Hartzell get a chance, But then agian, I'm not the coach, and I don't see everything He does.

about zach
I feel that Zach is one of the better goalies in the state. I don't think hartzel will take over anytime soon.

Re: about zach
Well i do feel that hartzell and faust are both great goalies ... they each put up respectable numebrs in the elite leage so i think this dual gives white bear the edge against their opponents because no matter who they have in net it is going to be tough for their opponents score.... throw in a couple good defensemen , 2 way forwards and a defensive minded coach .... makes it seem like the person who said defense wins championships was talkin about white bear lake

Re: about zach
Faust is the product of the team he plays for. But once he gets up against good competition, such as the Elite League, he is average. He had the 9th best GAA(4.073) in the Elite League this year and the 11th best save %(.879). Hartzell had comparable #'s in the Elite League and should be given some starts. He also didn't make one of the two Minnesota teams for the National Tournament. FSN made faust sound like he was the next coming of Dominick Hasek, when really he is just an good but not great goalie. The best goalie in the state is Matt Beggs, who led the Elite League in GAA(2.819) and Save %(.917). He is off to a great start so far this season with 2 shutouts in 3 games and he leads the state in GAA(.67) and Save %( .97).

Well said, good goalie, not great.

Re: about goalies
I do enjoy the talk about netminders. I truly believe that most who watch only the "top" clubs are not seeing some of the best goalies in the state. Some of the more skilled goalies making some of the "great" saves or "amazing" plays are those who have to day in and day out play without a defense in front of them. I believe names like Ellingson and Faust wouldn't be tossed around this board if they weren't playing for the teams they are.....seriously, CEC and WBL have had and continue to have strong defensive play. I mean absolutely no disrespect to these goalies because they are strong in the position....but they get ALOT of help looking good.

Look at Blake so far this year. Patterson is a very fine goalie, but his numbers aren't coming around, and why? Blake is struggling defensively in the games they have lost this year. Hype up whatever player you wish, but there are some mighty fine goaltenders, who are not on the big teams, who are working hard game in and game out just trying to keep their team in the game because they are their only hope. Their numbers are skewed because of the team they are on....but if I were putting a team together I can tell you that I would look beyond the powerhouse team goalies.

Re: about goalies
ok, that was way to much faust bashing for me to handle. I will be totally honest about this post. Faust has let in soft goals probably more than he should of but he has also made some great saves. But one thing he ALWAYS! manages to do is to keep WBL in the game. This is for the Faust haters...
Last season, 6 shutouts 1 against moorhead in the schwans championship. 4 of those shutouts were consecutive. He also had 6 one goal games. He also shut out Holy Angels in the shoot out last season. BTW Faust is better than Hartzell, and ALL goalies are cocky not just Faust.
The curse lives on.....
