Century hockey....

Post by BloomJeffHcky » Wed Dec 14, 2005 11:50 am

Is century honestly this bad. I cant see how there getting beat by the 1AA teams when they have the set of players that they do. I dont live down there and havent seen any of the games but the word up here sounds like there nothing special and closer to the opposite. So anyone who knows about about them want to give me the low down because i played against some of there guys in elites and they seemed like pretty good players at least capable of beating some 1AA teams.

BloomJeffhcky-

They are horrible. They have no discipline. And also they have no goalie. You can read on some of the Section 1AA threads and it says alot in there about them. Yes they have a couple of really skilled players. And they will score some goals. But you need to be able to stop the puck to win in this game. Right now they can't stop the puck from the sounds of it.

Maybe the other southern hockey teams just aren't as bad as you think they are

You're right...the other So Mn teams are getting better and will post some surprises this year.
The Century goalie isn't that bad......he needs help from his defense which is the 2nd biggest problem. The first big problem is a team that gets 16 penalties in a game against Faribault.
Anybody think too many penalties might be a problem??

siv 101 you hit it right on kangas WAS there team last year I know they had some good players but without him they would have been in about the same predicament they are in right now as for the Century goalie wow yeah I have seen him play and he needs some work granted he is young but I think that century should have given another goalie some playing time last year because throwing a sophmore goalie into a section like 1AA with a team that has lost alot of talent is probably not the best bet for century as you can tell by the scores as for the forwards they can and will score alot of goals but if you cant save the puck I dont care who you are its gonna be tough to win games especially in a tough section

Guys...again...16 penalties in last game vs Faribault and from what I understand a few 5-3's....even kangas wouldn't have appreciated that or stopped everything

There's always a worst and a best in most aspects of life. I don't personally care who is the best or worst section in the state. This is about kids of which most are finishing their hockey careers in HS and having fun doing it. Quit bashing the kids and who or what they play for.
A lot of people on this board need to look for more of the positives rather than bashing teams and players.

Hockisbest,

I was not bashing the players on this particular thread. I was bashing the people on this board for saying that Section 1AA was such a tough section. It is not a tough section by any means. Thanks though.....

so centurys lacking on the defensive side it sounds like. It was hard to figure out what exactly the situation was cause of all bitterness between the posters haha. I thought they had a good goalie tho...i heard they had a goalie who plays for the AAA fire or something. I prolly just got the facts mixed up. But thats kind of a sucky deal. we were all thinking that century would be the team coming back up to xcel this spring from 1AA but from what it sounds like its a toss up.

I watched some of their scrimmages up in Grand Rapids a few weeks ago and they didn't look up to par at all. I don't think they even won a game, I think they lost to GR by a pretty good amount twice and then tied a Bemidji team that has 7 sophomores on the starting varsity roster. I don't think they are even half the team they were last year without Kangas.

Sad to say it but the tides have turned in Rochester. I think that the lack off defensive skill and the innability of century's coaching staff to put together solid defensive sysytem has finally came back to bite them in the ass. Now that Kangas is gone i think people are starting to realize on that side of town that there is more than just scoring that makes a good team. The last three years century would not have been anything without that man in the net. I can just picture century forwards right now being behind other teams defenders waiting for the puck on an odd man rush, with no control of the puck in their own zone "solely depending on kangas not letting anything by". This sloppy terminte style century was able to get away with while having kangas has come to a sudden hult. Now century finally has a taste of their own medicine, and I think the coaches and players are having a hard time getting back on track. We all know they can score, they just need to play some D and maybe it will all turn around. Good luck to that program, they will definitly need it after what they have shown so far his year.

RGGspartan... Finally the tides have turned ? I will admit that last year we did rely on kangas. But to say that he was the only reason we won is complete BS. In order to win a game you need to be able to score, correct ? Everyone is counting century down and out because they are 0-4. I have faith in the coaches and players to turn this season around. Mark my words century will hit a hot streak .......

Big Nine 05

I thought Century had several good defensive players returning this year? CHSbig92005, obviously century can score and they still are getting beat by below average teams. Should I recall? (5-fairbault, 5-tartan, 3-mayo, 3-owatonna). Sure century may have had a bit more talent last year, but 50% of thier wins came from Kangas, and the defense only looked good standing in front of HIS talent. I agree with RGGspartan, they can score and probably will score more when Grimsted gets back but even when he gets back the goalies have to try to keep the game under 5 goals. More than likely Century is going to score 5 or more in a game but when they play Edina and Duluth East it isn't going to be to much fun if they keep playing the way they are.
