Score from tonight:

Edina-11
Prior Lake/Savage-1

In a ragged game, Edina blew the Lakers out in the first four minutes of the first period by jumping to a 4-0 lead. The first minute of the period started reasonably with both teams moving the puck up and down the ice, and then Edina drew a penalty. Shortly after that, the Lakers drew a penalty. In a 4 on 4 situation, Edina promptly scored twice and followed those two with a power play goal. Playing even up, the Hornets added a fourth goal and the Lakers sagged. The first period ended 6-1 with the Hornets out shot 21-2.

The ragged play continued into the second period with Edina drawing 5 penalties. They still added four goals in 11 shots to end the second leading 10-1. As the second period wound down, realizing their “un-fairplay point” was in jeopardy, the Edina bench started yelling to its players to stop hitting and being aggressive. Just move the puck. The shots on goal at the end of the second period of play were 31-7.

In the final period, the Hornets showed discipline as they played a hockey version of “four corners” positioning their two wings and their two defensemen in a box spread out about a fourth of the rink with the center in the middle and moved the box with passing from the Lakers blue line to their own blue line keeping the puck away from the Lakers forwards. They rarely attacked the goal taking only three shots and they did not take any penalties in that final period. By my count, at the end of the second period, the Hornets had seven penalties and had already lost their “un-fairplay point”. After a ragged played game in the first two periods, the Hornets impressed in the final. They deserved to have kept that point.

In a game from Tuesday night:

South St. Paul-5
Irondale-1

I didn’t see the game, but my understanding is that the South St. Paul coach may not be able to continue coaching this season. The Packers may need a coach. With good players and kids on the Packer team, I hope a leader can be found.

Frederick, thanks for the update of the game where there was NO WAY (read it on this board) Edina beat Prior Lake by more than five. Funny how Inigo Montoya completely bailed on these kids after an opening weekend.

Last year Edina had the top record and finished behind Burnsville. Fair Play doesn't really make sense to me. Has their been any discussion of eliminating them? After all, a hockey team is sufficiently penalized when they take penalites in games.

10-1 after two periods is a total beatdown. Especially when some thought Prior Lake was going to win. Hope you enjoyed the game.

I didn't "bail" on the kids. I'm sure they're a super group of boys; I've heard many good things throughout the summer about many of them as individuals. If all of that individual talent comes together as a team, they'll be a force to reckon with.

I do have a soft spot for the underdog, which means I don't cheer much for the Hornets - a testament to the program. I was just poke checking those of you that bleed green. Apparently, mission accomplished.

On an aside, it's not impossible, but it is definitely tougher to cheer for kids when a fan rants about a "total beatdown" of twelve year old boys. I hope they go undefeated for you; I'm guessing there will be some folks ready to jump on the chance to rub your nose in it.

Send your checks to Dogeatdog1 At dogpound mn.... again not a green lover but a realistic hockey fan. Prior Lake has a team that will beat a few teams when they don't play up to their potential but don't see them figuring in the mix of district six. Smile

Very amusing, Inigo. You didn't? Read your post. Something about Edina losing to Elk River meant that Prior Lake beating Edina isn't an upset.

Save the rigamarole about why you feel the way you do, the obvious point is you should have stayed away from making a prediction here. Whether you like it or not, one of the stories to follow on the Minnesota Pee Wee scene is how the Edina team fares. In a community known for strong youth hockey, the Squirt team two seasons ago stood out as a clear outlier.

10-1 after two is a thorough beatdown. No rant here. What do you call it? As for rubbing noses, I haven't made any predictions. That's why I was putting stock in those that were posted. Not next time.

The statement was Prior Lake beating Edina would not be an upset.

When someone said Edina should be favored by a large margin, you suggested they might not score five goals.

No rant, just the facts. Pointing them out bother you for some reason?

Maybe Prior Lake beating Edina last night was just incontheivable! There'll be more games this season. Roseau got pummelled early last year and won state.

As for rant...I do no think he know what that mean. (To quote you.)

to speak or declaim extravagantly or violently; talk in a wild or vehement way; rave

Clearly my comments lack the longevity and fervor.

From Thursday night:

Woodbury-7
Blaine-4

High paced game that was well skated by both teams for the first two periods. The Bengals jumped off to a 2-0 lead only to have Woodbury come back to take a 5-2 lead. A buzzer beating third goal by Blaine at the end of the second period followed by an open net goal when a Blaine forward beat the Woodbury goalie to the puck closed the score to 5-4 in a shortened third period. Woodbury added two short handed goals to end the scoring.

Fredrick - You are amazing! This was a good skating game to watch but I don't remember Woodbury scoring any shorthanded goals they did score a couple power play goals.

From Saturday afternoon:

Burnsville-5
Minnetonka-3

First look at Tonka and they have size and talent. If they can put it together, could be a threat in D6 this year. Burnsville remains a hard, aggressive, tough team and should be in the top teams in D6. The Blaze have the draw for their turkey day tourney. The three pools are as follows:

Pool 1: Burnsville, Rosemount, Andover, and Hastings
Pool 2: Jefferson, Eastview, Woodbury, and Anoka
Pool 3: Lakeville North, Roseville, Edina and Hudson, Wi.

An interesting mix of teams from D6, D8, D10 and D2 (Roseville) which should lead to an exciting championship game on Sunday.

Fred?
Looks like there could be a pile up at the top of District 6 this year EP beating Edina in Duluth? Minnetonka looking to be strong? Burnsville losing to Prior Lake then beating Tonka? and Chaska keeping things interesting.... I know it is early but everyone should be starting to hit a stride and top teams should separate themselves by now shouldn't they?

Hockeyman96 you sound an awful lot like Hockeyman95 who's been pimping Hopkins on the Bantam threads. You guys should get together and compare notes.

He actually grew up in the Cooper program and got plenty of work. Great family. My son played with him as a goalie in the past.

Hopkins better do a little bit more than beat Kennedy by just one goal and beat Rogers by just two goals to capture anybody's imagination.
