3A sections
basically the 3 teams that could go to state out of this section is Lourdes, St. Thomas, and Red Wing. The way it could end up to be is St. Thomas #1, Red wing #2 and Lourdes #3 for the seeding. Do you think if Lourdes gets by Red Wing they have a good chance of beating St. Thomas to get to the State tournament? Or is St. Thomas that good?

3A
Lourdes has no chance of beating STA. It was almost a shut out when they played the first game. However, if Red Wing plays STA for the final, it should be a good game, STA coming out on top though.

Re: 3A sections
It looks as if thats how the seeds will indeed turn out. The Lourdes-Red Wing game is no game in the bag for Red Wing. Lourdes has confidence that they can play with and even beat the Wingers so that will be a tough challenge for Red Wing. But I also see a Red Wing-Sta final with Sta coming out on top.

Dangles and mathrunner

Of course you think STA is going to beat Red Wing in the sections. You are great Cadet fans. But try being objective for once.

What happened against North St Paul? They weren't even ranked in the top 20 anywhere? What happens if the Tommies play like that in the sections?

And I'm not sure how you beat Lourdes by 5-1 but they won't play that way again in the sections. Didn't they almost beat you in the section championship last year?

STA
Almost beat STA in the playoffs last year? STA has beat the Lourdes, including this year, the last 4 times they have met up. The section game last year, STA scored early in the first, and Rochester scored one within minutes of the end of the game. They were completely dominated and managed to get one in before the end of the 3rd. That's why they ended up losing in overtime. In addition, when they played Red Wing this year, they were ahead the whole game. Not saying they can't lose, but they definately won't do it before they get to state this year.

mattrunner says about STA;

"In addition, when they played Red Wing this year, they (STA) were ahead the whole game. Not saying they can't lose, but they definately won't do it before they get to state this year. "

In that game, STA scored 2 goals in the first, two in the second and none in the third. RW scored 1 in the first, two in the second and one in the third. Sure they were ahead but by one goal.

So they (STA) have a losing record and get beat by unranked N St Paul this weekend.

Next he'll say they are going to win the state tournament.

Re: STA
Wow, that was a nice one. So, first off, when they lost to NSP, they didn't have a losing record. STA is good, but with Hibbing beating Warroad, I think saying they can get by Hibbing is a long shot at this point. They also were close to beating Hill Murray. This is why people play sports though, if it was always the team that was better on paper who won, it would be really boring, but it's not. That's why Red Wing didn't lose to STA. Also, this is a discussion about 3A, I don't really see how an upset loss against NSP has anything to do with STA's dominance in 3A. Good day sir.

RE:Section 3A
Obviously it will be a 3 horse race with STA, RW, and Lourdes via for the state berth. None of the teams have played particularly well and at this point you could reasonable make a case for any of them.

STA definately has the most offensive talent, adequate defense and good goaltending.

RW is a defensive team, they've only allowed 3 or 4 goals even strenght goals thus far this year. They have good goaltending to back them up, they just need to figure how to put the puck in the net.

Lourdes is a talented team with good speed and physical play, I'm just not convinced yet they can get it done - the loss at AL was not that reassuring as the Big 9 is weak this year.

The question - does good offense beat good defense? We'll find out...

how can you say that none of these teams have played particulary well. have you seen the record of red wing, beating ranked blake, breck, tieing STA. Maybe you should do some more research next time.

So much for not beating this to death
So much for not beating this to death. STA did lose, but they were able to score on Breck. Red Wing tied Lourdes, and STA almost shut them out, what someone would call a lucky shot went in. STA hung in there with hill and lost to NSP. Geez, okay, so we've determined that it is a game not played on paper, get over it. Anything can happen, anyone can win. STA's a better team hands down. Not saying they can't lose, but they're a better team.

NOt playing well
STA is 2-3-1 or something like that, with wins over Lourdes and Greenway 13 - 1!

RW had to go to OT to beat Mahtomehdi, tied Lourdes. They did beat Breck who is 3-4 and Blake who is 3-4, oh yeah, they beat Roch JM - at best a very weak team, maybe the worst of the 4 in Rochester this year.

Lourdes just got beat by Shakopee - everyone is dissing becasue they "havn't played anyone".

I'll stand by my comments, I don't feel any of these teams have made much of a case yet for being top 10, and certainly not top 5.

any given day
Any given day some low ranked team or over ranked team can lose. I mean come on now. Not every team is on top of their game 24/7. Even if it is a fluke, a win is a win.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... gh12345 at: 12/21/05 10:03 pm
