Throw out the records for all the teams this is state. All the teams are 0-0 brand new season for them. E.P should win this tourney though from my past experinces watching this team in tournaments. Great team good speed and great goalie

Did Edina "throw" it this past weekend to play in the weaker side? I am not sure if it is possible, but does anyone have a take on this?

No, Edina absolutely did not "throw" the game against Lakeville North this weekend.

They were up 1 to nothing going into the resurfacing between the 2nd and 3rd periods. Lakeville North came out into the third period very motivated to win the game.

Lakeville North scored on a power play early in the third. The Edina goalie appeared to be screened by one of her own players, as the puck went right through the 5 hole. Then, at the around the 5:30 mark, Lakeville netted a beautiful high, corner shot from the point.

Edina fought tough the entire third period, but the Lakeville North goalie was busy successfully defending the barrage of shots from Edina's strong front line. I don't know the shot count, but I wouldn't be surprised if the ratio was 3 to 1 in favor of Edina.

Lakeville North definitely earned their ticket to the state tournament.

Note: Either winning the first or the second game didn't really affect bracket placement. Edina would have still been in the lower half of the bracket, as both the National 2 and National 3 seeds were placed there. They'll now get to meet Centennial potentially in the second round, instead of the first (assuming they and Centennial win their first round games).

12ua state tournament

Post by knights58 »

Centennial is a very good team...but there is no way they win this tournament unless they can figure out how to dial back the penalties. They had 13 penalties in their game against NWC in regions...score? NWC 6 Centennial 2. So, everyone picking them to win this thing better hope they figure it out between now and then.

Mr knights58 yes Centennial had 13 pentielties. (Eight were interference) and NWC had eight. It was clear the NWC girls were doing some diving number 50 and 27 were bumped they fell down or did the flop.

Don't take it wrong Centennial needs to figure it out if they want to advance but the way that game was called was a total joke.

Also in the Fargo tounement a couple of weeks a go NWC was call for diving 2 or 3 times very interesting when I heard that stat. Toughen up! This isn't the Mighty Ducks.

Very disappointing two great teams playing and 21 penalties were called all together. The refs clearly lost control of what should of been a great game.

Well, your stats are wrong...there weren't 2 or 3...there was one for diving in Fargo. So..let's see...40 some games of hockey and one diving penalty this year....huh...sounds like a pattern, right? Regardless....just stating a fact. Centennial is an awesome team but penalties get them in trouble. Not just against the Mighty Ducks...I mean NWC (see Cake Eaters tourney). No need for any teams to "toughen up". Just because a team get's ton's of penalties, doesn't make them a tough team. Anyway....good luck to Centennial, NWC and all the teams at State. IT's a very strong field and the games should be fun to watch!

ATTN: Refs at the 12UA State tourney! Please understand the rule on embellishment:
Diving (also called embellishment) is a term used in ice hockey to describe the way a player tries to get the attention of the Referee by embellishing an infraction from an opposing player in an attempt to draw a penalty. In the NHL & the 12UA State Tourney, any player called for diving will receive a 2-minute minor penalty for the infraction.

Hey 58....Centennial has had your number for a few years at 14's, 12's, 10's etc. Enjoy that strange victory at Regions. The two games earlier in the year when they had competent refs I think they did ok.
When you finish that Cigar...turn the page and watch out for Roseau....

Well Panpan the refs can just pick any rule in the rule book and apply it to centennial. Roughing? Checking? Interference? Anyway, a typical response from a typical rube. guess you missed the part about me wishing Centennial good luck...didn't hear any cockiness coming from me( I missed the part of me celebrating and smoking the NWC cigar)...but again, typical..blame the refs...wouldn't expect anything less. I'm sure you will reply with more of your uneducated garbage. Oh, by the way, this group of girls are about .500 against the same group of girls from Centennial from 10UA through 12UA but I wouldn't expect facts to get in the way of your opinions. I won't use the posting board for this and waste everyone elses time. Again...good luck to the teams...including centennial as I'm pretty friendly with some of their parents and they are great people.

Sounds to me like Panpan is a bit of a drama hound. spews excuses, then goes into attack mode. A four goal victory is a strange victory? Um..okay...usually it is quite a fluke when a team wins by four. I'm guessing the four goals were all knocked in by Centennial defensemen or something along those lines. Usually when the #5 team in the state beats the #3 team by four, that is so unheard of it's called a fluke. Maybe the R.Hawks will contact Kurt Russell to film another version of "Miracle" I'm not involved with either team..but let's see what kind of trash you are throwing out after the tournament. I bet we see more crying about the refs when they don't win it all....

As an observer, I was helping out with the tournament and I was shocked at how many penalties were inforced in that game. I was speaking to the tournament director on Sunday and he had said that the referees in question were asked not to come back. When I asked why his response was that the two didn't have enough experience and that MN Hockey was trying to get more women referees involved with these type of events but this time it didn't work out. They were scheduled to officiate one of the AM games on Sunday. Now as I saw the game, I still believe NWC outplayed Centennial and deserve their victory. It was obvious that in the 3rd period, Centennial was out of gas and could not keep up, and that is when NWC scored the Majority and opened up the game. I did see alot of the same numbers on the ice from Centennial, maybe using the same girls repetively is what led to their loss. IMHO

Pans&Knights - The two of you should just leave it to the players and just sit back, relax and enjoy the memories. It is obvious that both of you have players on the NWC/Centennial teams and most of us like your competitive enthusiasm which makes for entertaining reading, but seriously.

Its very possible both of you will be playing on Saturday at 12 & 2. IMHO- I hope both of you are; love the Teams from the far north, not the poser North teams from the outskirts of the cities.

BTW I know the Big Blue Cat Attack is out, I saw it, so your "jab" at me will be just that. Its what I would expect out of a couple of parents like the two of you.

Centennial vs Riverhawks

Post by pjnorby »

Wow, again what a dissappointing day for girls hockey. I am the proud parent of #27 of the Riverhawks. Better known I guess as the 4 ft nothing..60 pound "diver" for the Riverhawks. I can't for the life of me figure out why we must bring individual kids in to these discussions. I would never judge my own kid but I am fairly certain she tries her best and stays on her feet when many wouldn't.

I have reorganized the State tournament banquet (that was previously cancelled) and we are expecting 400 plus 12UA parents and players on a night to respect these kids and there accomplishments. For some I would strongly encourage you to send the wife so we don't have to hear any more negatives or about your bad luck.

Good luck at state..and I guess if the refs are on your side you are a shoe in for first.

Norbs, Can I call you Norbs?

Thanks for reorganizing the banquet. What an exciting time for these young ladies.
Best of luck to your daughter and and all of the other young ladies playing in this tournament.
I know my daughter is so excited and looking forward to having the time of her life.

Bingo! This has been the downfall of many Centennial teams over the past few seasons. The coaches become so obsessed with winning "big games" that they forget how they got there and overuse their "star" players. I've seen it many times. The "3rd line" gets the 3rd period off and their opponents kill them with quick line changes and fresh skaters.

I am a proud parent of a Centennial 12UA hockey player. We have had a great season and I wish everyone would move on from the NWC game. NWC is a team we practice/scrimmage/hangout with on a regular basis. The game was difficult to watch from both benches. The refs were overmatched and called a bad game on both sides. We lost! We made it to State! We did what we had to do!
Get over the penalties everyone! Our record speaks for itself. That is all we have heard all year! Our girls work their butts off and are really good on the Penalty Kill! They have to be! (LOL)
Please move the discussion to the upcoming games, Banquet, and remember this is about the lasting memories our girls will cherish for a lifetime!
Playing time is the other issue. That should be dealt with with coaches, not on a blog. Be realistic and have fun!

Good luck to all!

If this the 4 ft player that I saw out there on Saturday she was FUN to watch! I actually had my own 4 ft something daughter watch her to show her how a smaller player needs to move around the ice and be a playmaker like she is. Congrats on your daughter and if people have nothing nice to say about specific players on these blogs, then leave them out of it, that's bush league.

I think that's totally crossing a line when you call out specific girls in a forum like this. These girls are dealing with a lot of "growing up" pressure at this time of their lives, and this is just something they should never have to worry about at this age. It's too late to delete it... the damage is probably already done... but in the future, try no to be so specific.
Don't sweat the small stuff.
It's all small stuff.

Speaking as someone who knows the damage this forum can do, I agree with all who say keep the personal numbers and names out of here. I have learned my lesson and now learn yours. It does nothing but injure those involved. No amount of name calling or accusations will ever change the outcome of a game already played. Why bring attention to girls who are 11 and 12 years old. Let it go and move on. Remember that both teams are going to state, deservingly so, and the best hockey we will see all season, is about to be played. I know several people from both teams and all are upstanding and positive individuals who take personal accountability for the image they represent in hockey. We all respect and love this game and none of us would do anyhting to jepordize it's virtue.

I will say thanks to all involved for organizing the 12UA banquet. It promises to be a great evening.
Goodluck to everyone, keep it positive and enjoy the kids cuz before we know it, their off to college and out the door.

Also,
Go Centennial!!!

Great tournament so far!! The outcome of the games has been what the majority of the masses were thinking all year long. Congrats to EP and Edina for making it to the finals of this years U12A State Tournament! :)

It was predictable as the sun rising from the east. Two large associations with deep talent pool and from that a wider range of above average coaches to pick from. It looks as though NWC and Lakeville North have carved out there place this year as the 3rd and 4th best teams (we will know which order tomorrow afternoon) in the State while Roseau takes on Centennial for the Consolation side of the Tournament. My pick is Roseau sorry Cougs, have more admiration for the Northern teams.

NWC just didnt have the deep player group like EP has and the outcome was predictable as was Edina over Lakeville North (6-Rip) that one must have left a mark. Roseau looked to have a challenge in nets and Centennial learned that when you only put two pucks in the net in 2 games it is really hard to move forward on the big Hardware side of the bracket.

I just want to echo what I said last November, coaching will always be a factor on the road to the final game of the season. EP and Edina have proven that theory again, thank you coaches.

Good luck tomorrow and may the best coach direct his players to the podium!
