Ness is not a good defensive defenseman, but I would have to say from watching these last few years, Wehrs and Fairchild are worse in the D zone... Ness will struggle at the next level, which will be the AHL...
Woog is dead on with his comments about Lucia bringing in bigger D. Follow the North Dakota model for D, big, strong and they move the puck up ice to talented forwards...
Also, get rid of Hill... Since Guentzel's departure, the Gopher D core has become the worst in the WCHA... Part of that is recruiting, but the coaching has been horrible...

I agree that he should get his degree, but from talking to Paul Martin and Keith Ballard, these players are presented with the opportunity to sign and get that big bonus up front. That money gives them the chance to play the game they love, then if it doesn't work, they can use the bonus $ to start a life and go back to school... For them, they made it at the NHL level... Ness may not, but can always go back to school, with the signing money tucked away...Mailman wrote:That, and with only one more year left (in theory anyway) until he'd have a degree..............strange move.Sats81 wrote:No joke! As far as the U, have to say I actually never thought he'd do much there. As said before, he wasn't any good at defense in high school either, and playing at D1 would only show that even more.

He hasn't recieved the bonus yet.DmanDad1980 wrote:I agree that he should get his degree, but from talking to Paul Martin and Keith Ballard, these players are presented with the opportunity to sign and get that big bonus up front. He's a football player on skates.

There hasn't been any whining. Part of making their team better is drafting good players and wanting those players to be developed to the next level. They feel that it doesn't happen at the U.Mailman wrote:With the results the Islanders have had the last few years, I'd say they need to worry about their own program before whining about someone elses.auld_skool wrote:My guess is that the Islanders wanted to get Ness away from the U just like they did with Okposo.
Sure there has. Remember Snow slamming Lucia during the Okposo fiasco ? For starters.auld_skool wrote:There hasn't been any whining. Not that Lucia doesn't deserve it, but last I checked, his checks are signed by the U of M, not the Islanders (or any other program) as I said, Snow needs to clean up his own mess before worrying about someone elses.
If Snow doesn't like the U program, get players from somewhere else then.

For those who might not have seen these clips of former Gopher Keith Ballard's two great hip checks in NHL action:
