Least Favorite Rinks in MN

Post by wallcee1959 »

a lot of people talk about the rinks they love to play at... what are your least favorite rinks to play/ref/watch at? I'd say there are many but a few that come to mind our Lily Lake in Stillwater, Forest lake is going downhill and Cloquet.

Mounds Views rink. I think it was warmer outside. Parks rink is a palace compared to MV's rink.

Any arena that has stands on only one side is trash. North St. Paul and Forest Lake are two of the worst that I can think of.

Northfield. Anyone who has ever played there will agree 100%.

Are they building a rink? At St. Olaf? THEY SHOULD!

Warmin up outside

Post by snowblower123 »

Moundsview's Shoreview arena is awful. Its freezing cold, limited seating, one side seating, and oh yeah did i mention it was cold?? I think people were going outside to warm up last time I was there.

I would have to say it is a toss up between Northfield and the old Cloquet rink. Everyone looks yellow when you are in the old rink at Cloquet.

Chisholm, it's 90 degrees in there. The corners are too big. It's like each end of the rink is a half circle.

hockeyman30 is 100% right. If anyone goes there they will agree 100% as well. The locker rooms fit about 7 people and a toilet right in the locker room itself. The stands are about a mile away from the rink and it holds rodeos when the ice isn't in. Pure Dump

Minnehaha

Post by Kodiak »

I have not been there for years, but I'm not a big fan of Minnehaha, except that the wooden "D" shape is very nice. Aside from that it's cold, the boards are too high (tough for us short guys to get on the bench, and a long ways down when getting off the bench... many taint injuries), and the ugly Zamboni (not even a Zamboni) leaks propane, giving fans and players alike a nice buzz. Good thing it's a non-smoking rink. I read in their LPH add that they're planning on building a new rink though... anybody know for sure? If so, will it be a "spectacle" rink like Breck and St. Thomas?

id have to go with chisholm, the score board didn't work when i was last there, the ceiling had ice/snow chunks falling on the ice when you were playing, everything looks yellow from the lights, the corners are huge and the neutral ice is only a few feet long

Terrible rinks are up North

Post by derek6655 »

Everyone is going with southern arenas as the worst in the state. It just goes to show you don't play up north much. Procter is by far the worst with the coldest arena in the state and the hottest lockeroom. Then there is the DECC. Nice to watch a game in, but as a play it sucks. It is so hot that when we have to play there we practice in sweatshirts to get ready for it. Then there is Moose Lake. In there don't jump to high or you are going to drill your head on the ceiling. And the lockerrooms are about as big a PC's bathrooms

bad rinks

Post by wallcee1959 »

I can't believe you people would even say that STA Park CG or NSP are bad rinks... you haven't been anywhere if you think those are bad.
