Most Disappointing Teams

Post by greenway1969 » Mon Jan 23, 2012 8:30 am

I don't know if these teams were over-hyped or if they have underachieved, but their seasons at this point are disappointing.

1. Grand Rapids - No quality wins. Yes, they have played some quality teams close, but close doesn't cut it.
2. Hibbing - Considered a contender at the start of the season, but they are barely above .500.
3. Bemidji - They have been soundly beaten by Hermantown, Forest Lake, and Grand Rapids. Their best performance is an overtime loss to Moorhead. Losses to Warroad and Thief River Falls do not help the image of a AA team.

Got to agree, Bemidji and GR have average teams at best.

Mounds View-
A lot of pre season hype, even mentions in pre season Top 20 by some. Much hype about the new coaching staff and the bantams that made a run coming in to make this team a dark horse in the SEC and Section 4AA. Currently sitting in 9th place in the SEC.

I completely agree on Bemidji being a disapointment, but to say they were soundly beaten by GR makes it look like all you did was look at the final score (which wasn't all that bad at 4-1)...

That was a 2-1 game until 2 min left, when Bji was pressing for the tying goal and gave up a 3-1 for the insurance goal. GR added an ENG with less than a minute left. SOG were basically even at 36-32. We'll see what happens tomorrow, but "soundly beaten" was certainly NOT the case back on Jan. 3rd.

I agree that both Hibbing and Rapids have been disappointments so far.

Hibbing is starting to play much better and their goaltending is coming around, so they may still have a run in them come playoff time.

As for Rapids, they have a boatload of talent, and if they start clicking then a trip to state could very well happen.

If a few teams in 7A figure some things out, it could very well be a 4 team race for a trip to the Xcel come March.

I agree that Rapids has not been clicking like they are capable and I'm sure their players know they are better than going 0-3 in the Edina Classic. Their power play needs some work. I think they actually had 2 PP goals vs. White Bear Lake, but outside those two shots it was embarrassing. I don't know how many passes to the point were off target or when they were on target were not held in the zone. If you can't execute a simple tape to tape pass to a stationary target at the blue line you have no business being talked about with the better teams in the state. That said, the talent is there, and there is a lot of time before the playoffs. No need for them to panic, just get the PP going. Grand Rapids is very capable of going all the way. Just way too inconsistent in the game I watched on Saturday.

If all of the players currently on the EAST/Marshall teams, that played PeeWees/Bantams for the Lakers, stayed with Denfeld, you would have a significantly better Denfeld team. East/Marshall would be significantly different too…

so because you do not agree with my opinion that apollo and tech are having dismal seasons, i cannot express that in the thread titled "most dissapointing teams"? wow...you are an idiot.

Nowhere did he say they were having a stellar season. They're simply curious as to why 80% of your posts revolve around ripping St. Cloud teams in some way. You've made it clear you don't like how bad hockey is in that town. With your clear opinion of their teams/programs, their performances should be classified as expected, not disappointing.

Seems like it for a team with 2 wins, until you look closely: their losses are to EP, Mtka, Burnsville, Lakeville South, Wayzata (twice), Elk River, Centennial, Eagan, Prior Lake, Lakeville North and Apple Valley.

Not any really embarrassing losses, I am sure they hoped to beat AV and LN, but other than that, not a lot of gimme's on this list.

Thank you HockeyGuy for stating that. Northern Guy has some issue with St Cloud hockey and no one knows why. If you look at the records for Apollo and Tech the last 5 or so years you will see that this is Apollos best season so far out of them and they have already surpassed last years win total and there a very strong hance this team wil be .500 at seasons end just like alot of people thought would happen. Tech on the other hand is going to be lucky to win 5 or 6 games this year and again ask anyone associated with that team and most of them would say its what was expected cause of how much talent they lost last year. Apollo is not having a bad season by any means and they could be a threat for a trip to state if they figure some things out and. Northern Guy you need to cool it with the St Cloud school bashing. Now go drink that Kool-Aid.

Duluth East.

The experts had me convinced they would go undefeated this season, but they didn't get it done.
