177 - Terry Steinbach, New Ulm (1980)
Terry Steinbach as in former MLB catcher? Didn't know he played hockey?

Played a couple times a year in Bantams and High School hockey against Terry... He was the strongest player I played against each year, legs like tree trunks, body like a rock, and was the only player I could not move in front of our net... Had a huge shot as well, just like the shots he put on us in baseball each year as well...

How far back do reliable records go? I suspect that if you go back to when Minnesota high school hockey got its start the lists of players would be a lot longer. The teams played fewer games back then and the periods were shorter, but there wasn't the depth you have today and the top players could really dominate and score in bunches. Scoring 100 points in your high school career was well within range.

Sorry I don't have accurate #'s, most of these are from memory, but these are some guys worth checking on. If I find more, I will post it.
Duluth East Players:
Darren Amundson 1987
*86-87 20-37 57
85-86 10-26 36
84-85 13-15 28
83-84 ???
120++
* I am sure of the senior season, the others might be off, but I know he is well over 100.

Tim Trachsel 1988
* I know he had about 36 (18-18 ) as a Jr. and into the 50's as a Sr. - not sure if he cracked 100. He did play varsity as a soph.

Sean Hill 1988
* Had about 40 as a jr. and likely more as a sr. He has to be close.

Jud Crist 1989
*Had 20-30 as a soph. 40-50 as a jr. no guess on sr.
Very likely over 100.

Totally reliable records go back about four years...yes, that's it. Before the Hub, it's all regional newspaper stuff, teams that kept decent records and such -- but no one good source. It's VERY tough to find anything good.

Duluth East is one of those programs that I would love to have accurate information for...I'm an '89 East grad, so I certainly remember all those guys well. But I don't have any numbers from that time, either!

I can't find my 08 stats to give you an exact number, but Max Tardy cleared 100. Not many others in recent years; perhaps both Rob Johnsons. (The second played 4 years of varsity.)

I don't have numbers, but I'd speculate the following did, or had a shot:
Nick Licari
Ross Carlson
Nick Nelson?
Matt Mathias
Patrick Finnegan
Dylan Mills
Andy Wheeler? (only 2 yrs. varsity, but did play with Locker and Spehar their year)
Clint Johnson?
Derek Locker?
Nik Patronas?
Fran Bussey?
Rusty Fitzgerald, with his Silver Bay stats factored in

Any help, Lee?

I've got Fitzgerald at 179 with his Silver Bay stats. And just found a source for Tardy that has him at 126 points (61 goals, 65 assists).

Remember Josh Turnbull? Even though he left early, if you count his stats from his freshman season at Hayward (WI), he's at 120 career points (49 as a fr, 21 as a soph, 50 as a jr).

And I can't find Licari's freshman and sophomore stats, but in his junior and senior years he had 45-54--99 points. Anyone have his frosh/soph stats?

Ross Carlson has proven to be tough to find...nothing there yet.

I may have bad numbers for LaValle, but I'm showing:

as freshman: 26 points
as sophomore: 47 points
this year into last night's game: 25 points

Which gets him to 98. Am I missing some?

Yeah, I'd forgotten he played varsity as a freshman.

Licari also played some varsity in 8th grade, so he may have a few points from that season as well.
