After that performance last night, even though given the circumstances of the first 5 minutes of the game...MG moves the puck too well for Hill, and I think they will be headed for the finals this year. Like East, MG has scoring depth that can come from almost anywhere, and a very unselfish team.

Big stage, and new territory for a lot of these MG boys, Hill's coaching staff has a lot of experience at state. Lex will cook up a good game plan for this one, and I think if Hill can stay out of the box and play some stingy defense, they could sneak away with this one. Very hopeful guess for the score, but I'll break the trend of MG fans.

HM has nothing to lose in this one. MG is the favorite and expected to win. Sometimes its fun being the underdog. MG is vunerable as they poured everything into beating Blaine. Normailly I'd say the experience factor will also favor HM, but they only have 3 guys on the team from 2 years ago, so it will be new for them as well. I am interested to see how wide-eyed MG kids look during introductions. MG coaching staff are first timers as well.

I remember a HM squad not too long ago being all but counted out by everyone. The 2008 squad had to go through undefeated Roseau and equaly as heralded Edina. They didn't just win, but they whipped both teams and won state. Let's do it again!

Lex will get the boys ready for this one, no doubt. I think Dugas has a big game stored up that he's going to bring out next week at state. Big stage for him to show the state how good he is.

Tell me you're not comparing the '08 squad to this year's squad?

I think Stefano was Park Center HC in 1993, so he has been to state before - granted that was a long time ago. I agree Hill has the experience factor. I like MG better overall as a team but think Hill is certainly capable of pulling off the win if MG craps their pants on the big stage.

Ultimately I like MG 4-2.

I love this game to open the tournament. It should be a fast high flying game. I think this one will go down to the wire with MG winning something like 4-3 or 5-4. Maybe by two goals with an emty netter.

It's tempting to pick the Pioneers; I have nothing but respect for their coaching staff and ability to prepare for big games. If they get off to a good start, the Crimson could be in trouble. But in the end, MG may just be too deep. It's a great way to start the AA tourney.
