Grant Besse

Post by spectatorfun » Sat Mar 10, 2012 8:40 pm

Just wondering why the U never went after Besse. He is the best player in the state and would be Mr Hockey this year, if he was a senior. Why didn't Lucia go after him. His son played with him when they were younger. Wisconsin has to be beaming. Big loss for the Goph's

You do know they can't recruit everybody, right?

From his high school class they have Guertler, Lettieri, Fasching, and Cammarata coming in for forwards. Besse is a great player but I think they're satisfied with where they're at.

definitly not the best in the state. not hard to score when you float all game. against edina he was not as good as Horn for Benilde and Hurley for Edina

There was a reason I didn't list him (and before Hammy jumps in here, yes, I know, he's a role player and doesn't cost any scholarship money).

Back to Besse, Lucia has most likely seen him play much, much more over the years than any of us. I'll trust his judgment on this one.

I think gophers missed on him big time too and after seeing him more in the tourney I think he's better than Kloos and agree he would be Mr Hockey if he was a sr. What a talent he is. Hope he sticks around next yr.

Wow.....that will go down as the top performance by an individual player in the history of the state tourney.

Congrats GB!

Kid put on a show tonight. He was the only forward that blew by the Hill D all weekend.

Same judgement that did not recruit Ryan McDougah and Jake Gardiner, and you trust him?

BSM would have had 10 goals is Besse would pass. Horn fed him all night and got it back once in his skates.

Besse had Dugas' number all night long. Dugas went down (and he's short), Besse shot high - goal! Congrats Grant Besse and BSM!

Dugas was going with the percentages on the breakaways. He actually stopped a couple of them, but really there wasn't much he could do.

Who are you supposed to pass to on a breakaway?

Unreal performance tonight. Before we get to carried away lets talk about the difference between high school and college or even the elite league. What Grant did tonight is the stuff legends are made of. The hill gets a whole bunch steeper from here on out. This kid is the best pure goal scorer I've seen in a very long time but it will take a lot more to succeed at the next level. I just don't get the U of W commit. Eaves is a defense first guy. I'm not sure this is the best spot for him.

You are right about Eaves. On the other hand if he wants to play beyond college, Eaves will force him to become a more complete player. The NHL likes players from Wis and ND because of the style they play. Look what he did for the development of Jake Gardiner and Derek Stepan. They playing regular in the NHL right out of Wis.

Besse will do more to increase sales of Crazy OV sticks than Ovechkin. At least from our vantage point his stick looked like an OV pattern.

Why do people say he is a floater? He was killing penalties and scored 3 goals. Just cause he is faster and smarter than the other team doesn't make him a floater. He is actually a pretty well rounded player, very strong on his skates. Of course he will have to adjust his game a bit when he gets to college but he will.

Amazing shooter. One of the best performances at state I've ever seen. Wish the Gophers got him.

Amazing player, but the Gophers cannot recruit every MN player. The 2013 class for the U is already stacked with talent.

I thought he was probably the best skater out there, but let's remember this is High School hockey. When he gets to Bucky-land the type of play is different.

We won't be able to judge him to he is playing with the 23 years old....
