Murphy, would your data be able to determine what the average number of D1 scholarships that are awarded by birth year? Example, over the last five years it has averaged 32 scholarships for each birth year.

Thanks.

This data was cut and pasted from another site. Sorry.

While people could go through this list and assign birth years to each player, this list only looks at players committed next year and beyond as of this point. It doesn't account for those already playing now. If we look at 1993 birth years, this list misses Ambroz, Boyd, and others playing already that are not on this list. It also won't account for any 1993s that commit moving forward....

I don't think that this list would help with your question.

I'm not sure about birth year, but it's about 25-30 per grade that make commitments. I suppose that theoretically it should be about the same for birth year.

In any given birth year, there are 40-50 Minnesota kids who eventually play D1. Many of these commitments come after graduation. It also includes players who leave early for juniors or NTDP.

Terry, you are right.

I believe the number of Minnesota players at Division I last year was 179. This matches your 40-50 number and is far in excess of the 25 mentioned earlier. As you point out, kids could have played HS hockey in 9th or 10th grade and still become NCAA players.
Be kind. Rewind.

179 seems a little low. Seemed like the numbers I have seen have usually been over 200. Inside College Hockey did some articles called "State of the Game" to show where D1 players came from. Last one I saw was around 2007 and it was at 214 for MN that year.

179 is correct but the total number of D1 players was also down. Total Mn D1 and DIII was 419 and with the women for both D I and III total was 842 players

I'm kind of surprised. It has seemed to be a consensus on this board that Minnesota has been lacking in development of goaltenders for the next level, yet there are 10 on this list. I recognize that some went to NTDP, etc, but they are still Minnesota kids. Congrats to all of them!!

Out of curiousity, was Jacob Meyers a Tonka or Hopkins district kid and how far back does he go with BSM? I'm going to assume Hopkins and he didn't want to compete with Fons?

(for anyone wanting to jump the gun this is not a private recruiting rant, I just didn't realize where he was from).

Jacob Meyers played bantams for EP and was part of the state championship BA team.

He opted to play high school at BSM; he never played for the EP high school (but his older brothers did)
