Bauer NIT Selection

Post by Granttenn » Mon Oct 22, 2012 8:21 pm

Does anyone know if they select for the Bauer NIT at the close of the Elite Leagues regular season or if they include playoff play/points as well. This post has 20+ Forwards listed and I think they take 24 Forwards + 2 alternates to stock the Mn White and Red teams. Any opinions of who on the list may not make it and/or players not on the scoring lists who will make it as Forwards in place of......

Thanks

I think another stat that surprises me is the amount of uncommitted players this year in the top scoring compared to last year. After quickly looking over the top 15 goal scorers, I believe if I am not mistaken that there is only one committed player.

Any surprises when looking at breakdowns by year (JR & S

Post by Granttenn » Mon Oct 22, 2012 10:07 pm

Any surprises when looking at breakdowns by year (JR & SR)...

What happened to the Moorhead contingent Aaron Herdt (5-5-10pts), the Uglems. And then there's Tyler Clime (5-5-10pts). Also expected Kuhlman & Avery Peterson to be higher. Andrew Zerban got press early on but ended with (7-1-8pts), same with Tommy Hajicek who had such a great U16 camp but put up (2-4-6pts) here. Alex Toscano at (1-4-5pts) was another surprise.. Of course there may be some injuries etc but I included only those playing all but a few of the 21 games. Points aren't everything of course but pretty indicative over a 21 game schedule against apples to apples opponents.

There were also a few surprises of those that were higher than expected..
Anyone else?.............

Taking a stab at a few of these...I only saw a few games, but it seemed like Team North was among the more committed teams to rolling four balanced lines, which may have depressed point totals for players like Kuhlman and Peterson. Toscano was the QB on the East football team, which may have affected his performance some, though I agree 5 points is low.

Great Plains, meanwhile, had more players on their roster than all of the other teams, meaning they had to scratch a few players every week. That probably affected a few players' point totals.

Do you think the genius head coach in Edina will give Bo Brauer a little more ice time this year or does he want to choke in or on his way to the tournament again??

Thinking back to this post, realistically try to mix this with the possibilities of these players leaving. Connor Hurley will almost surely be gone, and Kuhlman and Sheehy have already played USHL games as well. Makes things quite interesting for 2014. As it will for 2013 too.

No guarantee things won't change, but Kuhlman has said he'll be back at Cloquet for his senior year.

Karson Kuhlman & Willie Brown so far

Post by Wallyworld » Tue Oct 23, 2012 4:24 pm

So far Brown has 4 votes and Kuhlman has 2 with nobody else more than one. A little surprising though both leaders are top notch players. Brown had a great coming out at the State Tourney with Hill's run and playing with Guentzel and Lavalle. Kuhlman made his international splash and UMD obviously loves him..

I thought there would be more west siders favoring Ramsey or Spinner - or Sheehy for the mid-west-south metro... Anybody have a breakdown of the games of the top vote getters. I'm no scout though I'd love to hear some banter from the informed about the games of these guys...... You never know which of the Juniors is going to blossom, especially looking back at several years of Elite League leaders and comparing to college performance.. I think the speed and quickness that benefits so many coming up gives way to vision and playmaking ability at the higher levels..... ????

i actually like giles as a coach but this is the one thing i did not like from him was that he could not find a line for brauer. To start the year he was on a line with jordahl and for the first 4 or 5 games Brauer led the team in points but then he got the hurley-Jordahl-Malmquist line together and Brauer got few ice time which is a shame cause he is a great player and a great kid, one of the nicest you will meet.

Some observations of the players I have made while watching a few of the games.
Tyler Sheehy-Strong, fast and skilled. Pretty complete player but can be known to disappear. I still really like his overall skill set. Excited to see him step into the main role at Burnsville this year.
Spencer Naas- Extremely quick and fast. Good vision and playmaking but can get knocked off the puck sometimes. Good nose for the net as well. Will be interesting to see how he plays at BSM.
Steven Spinner- Strong and fast with a great shot. Liked his explosiveness but I felt like he occasionally tried to do too much with the puck which can get him in trouble. Should be a top threat on a very good EP team this year.
Austin Poganski- Good strength and skills. Although I didn't get a chance to watch him too much, I liked his overall abilities but I thought he had some speed issues. We'll see how he looks later on in the season.
Jack Ramsey- Big body with a good shot. Pretty smart hockey player but sometimes struggled with skating and stickhandling. Obviously good at putting the puck in the net though.
Willie Brown- Solid hands and shot but seemed to struggle with speed. Often inconsistent but when on he is definitely a threat. Will be counted on big time this year.
