Seems like each year theres a different Lakevile team favorited to go to state, its anyone guess but I feel South has an advantage.

Wouldn't be surprised if Mayo won section this year. Only lost to Lakeville North 3-0.

Could it be the year we see someone other than a Lakevill team at state? I think its going to be South again this year but if someone gets a hot goalie then they could possibly ride them to state.

I know this is brought up every year, but this season even more than ever it seems like two sections in class AA are far more superior than all the others. That being 6AA and 7AA. Arguably half of the top 20 teams! Maybe it just seems that way because 1AA, 3AA, and 5AA are so weak this year besides Hill Murray in 4AA, and an above average Eagan team in 3AA.

My prediction:
1AA-Lakeville North
2AA-Edina
3AA-Eagan
4AA-Hill Murray
5AA-Blaine
6AA-BSM
7AA-Duluth East
8AA-Roseau

Does anyone think Edina will not make it to state this year?

Edina has had a nice run of section titles. Not sure how many off hand, but historically, three in a row is very respectable and they're beyond that. Everyone gets upset sooner or later. Human nature is to expect and take for granted what has happened before. Sooner or later there is a rude awakening. Not saying it will end this year, but in some ways they're on borrowed time.

It appears Burnsville and Prior Lake will give them run for it.

I have always thought that Burnsville teams can surprise on any given night. I also have faith in Joe Pankratz and the work he has been doing in Prior Lake. Has it finally paid off?

I know it's early but 7AA (supposedly the section that's supposed to compete with 6AA for depth) isn't exactly lighting the world on fire so far.

I happen to think Farmington has a chance too, by why do you think so?

Because the rest of 1AA is down and vulnerable to an upset. Farmington is a program on the rise and I think that section is due for a newcomer to the X. I thought about Prior Lake in 2AA, but I'm just not sure if they are ready to make that leap. It just seems Edina has gone so many years in a row they are due to be upset and Burnsville has a strong enough squad to accomplish that. If Grand Rapids doesn't get the Bischoffs back all bets are off. They are still a strong team w/o them, but with a goalie like Shepard and if they have the senior Bischoff back I really like their chances and I think this could also be one of those years they don't have to play East because the Hounds will get upset in the semi-finals by Cloquet.

That would be a great tournament to see teams that aren't normally in it. Is there a chance this happens? Yes. Is that a big chance? No.

Forest Lake I think is a top 4 seed, but I'm still not convinced on them yet. Too many times I've seen teams come from no where early in a season and then fall apart at the mid-way point. If GR is healthy going into sections and they play Forest Lake, I think it will be more like last seasons december game where GR won 6-0. Forest Lake still isn't in the top 20 in the rankings so it is apparent there are many others who are more in tune than myself that are skeptical as well. Keep in mind, this group from GR went to the state title game in pee sees and bantams so there is plenty of logic to think they'll win 7AA again in high school.

Cloquet isn't a big stretch to win 7AA. They have one of the top 10 forward lines in the state. Esse always has that team ready to compete in sections, and they had some defensive coverage issues against Jefferson, but those things can be fixed and Esse's track record is that those things do get fixed before the playoffs.
