After the big win vs. Tonka can the Ponies keep it going with another upset, this time on the road? Are these Ponies for real?

The only people calling the last Stillwater win an upset are those outside the SEC who are brainwashed into the thinking hockey is only played at 5 or 6 schools (Edina/Tonka/BSM/HM/East).... confidence is a crazy thing.

Okay, it was an upset...and it was big. It was a big win for the Stillwater program and hats off to those kids. Phil's away..the Ponies will play!

Definitely an upset and a great win by Stillwater. Here's my two-cents on the SEC: every team is bipolar! They can hang with (and beat) good and very good teams on any given night. But then that same team that beats a strong team will lay a turd a couple of nights later and confuse everyone.

on the topic

Was Housley behind the bench or was he with the World Jr's Team?
No Housley
Thought stillwater golie made some big saves when needed. stillwater D ate up several good chances as well. thought stillwater played team hockey, moved puck well. (skippers seemed to rely on indiv play)
Stillwater looks like they are the real deal.
or skipers very overated?
dont have much to compare this game to.
Any opinions out there?
The ponies have been VERY inconsistent. Good games against Woodbury, Roseville and Tonka. Bad games against FL, CG and Hastings.

Their D are definately solid (Cass and Reinke in particuar). Reinke was very good last night and the entire group played very good against Tonka. The forwards also had a lot of energy vs. Tonka. This team seems reminiscent of pony teams in the past that have struggled scoring. If they put 3 on the board they are pretty hard to beat. Will see in the next 2 games if Stillwater is for real or not. Wayzata and Andover...two more tough tests. If those are good games it will be a good indication that this team is getting better and is getting a more consistent effort. If not...then this group may be just a one trick pony so to speak.
thanks for the sound insight. looking forward to seeing how it plays out....would be nice to see stillwater in the mix...the assoc seems like its getting better and deeper at all the youger ages as well. could be the beginging of many years of success. we shall see!?!?!?!?!?!
The win over Tonka was an upset. A win over Wayzata ... not so much. The #11 Trojans are about a goal better than the #28 Ponies.

That's a HUGE goal though, considering Wayzata's effectiveness in 1-goal games

Wayzata 3
Stillwater 2

Laughing Laughing Laughing

The most appreciated quote regarding the SEC yet. I completely agree. The funniest thing about the SEC is the fact that White Bear is not calculating in on much of the upsetting going on, and seem to have a lot of forum space dedicated to there storyline. I think they will finish their season under 500 this year. Not really worthy of the exposure they are receiving.

Great win for Stillwater, showing the prowess of the play and youth coming up through the east metro. Hastings has surprised me this year. Their youth program play in the past few year hasn't given me a reason to see the success they have been enjoying so far this season. Either way, it has been a pleasant surprise.

look for Stillwater or Moundsview to be in the section 4 final.

I attended today's game and wondering how Stillwater beat Tonka.

Wayzata absolutely controlled the play and game.

Shots were 10 to 1 after 1, 25 to 9 with two minutes to play in the game.

I thought Wayzata played an outstanding game.
