If You Created A Section...

Post by boblee » Mon Jan 02, 2006 9:49 pm

If you created a section 9...either single A or AA...
1) where would it be? who would be in it?
2) how would you run playoffs? (where would games be played)
3) How would teams be seeded?
4) what would schedule requirements be?
5) what would you do to make the state tournament still work?

_________________

BOB
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... >boblee at: 1/2/06 9:52 pm

That creates a bit of a problem, doesn't it? How exactly would that be dealt with? Seeding? Have a play-in game in a State Tournament? You think you hear whining about how the Tournament is handled now?
____________
Message Board arsonist since 2005

Well, I'd make a section strength ranking and the 8 and 9 sections in those rankings would have to play a play-in game, then have a 8 team state tournament from there.

lets say that the state tournament issue is the least of our concerns...deal with it as if it would work

_________________

BOB

OK Bob, I will say it

maybe we should put all the private schools in their own section so they don't take over the state tournament

1) my section would consist of the 8 AA schools who are seeded last in their section in 2006.
2) Playoff games would all be at high seed. The games would be played on a tuesday, friday, thursday rotation.
3) seeding would go as follows:
criteria #1-record vs. section opponents with a record over .500
criteria #2-record vs. common opponents under .500
criteria #3-record vs. common opponents over .500
criteria #4-record vs. opponents under .500
criteria #5-record vs. opponents over .500
4) Every team would have to play each section team home and away. (these teams would be deemed non-conference or independent) They then have 9 games of choice...knowing the seeding process, choose wisely
5) I would have the two teams with the worst record have a play in game.

_________________

BOB

hawkfan70, after doing some thinking, I had the same idea but there was no idea I would have thought of proposing this. For very obvious reasons

Bob, here's my main question; why have a ninth section in the first place? Is there something wrong with having eight?

Lee
____________
Message Board arsonist since 2005

No, eight is perfect, but I just thought this was an interesting topic. Maybe I should say, how would you re-align sections...if the first question doesn't flow.

_________________

BOB

its been unfair for years...no matter how many sections

Maybe we should just take the top 16 from PageStat and go to town (St. Paul Town).

Even the sections out, throw Brainerd and Elk River into 8AA. Put Hibbing and Virginia back in 7AA. Just go to one class again. One state champ. Not the real state champ AA, and the toilet bowl winner, the single A champ.

Private Section

Post by mathrunner » Tue Jan 03, 2006 1:18 am

Although I am from a private school, and I see people bash us all the time, the idea doesn't make sense. It's being claimed that people basically don't want to lose to them and not make it to state, basically then.
First off, either way, there's only one champ. So, if you can't beat a team to make it to state, you just want to be let in by taking another team out.
Second, fine, they're private. But if they're better, wouldn't the athlete in the kid want to beat them to go on.
No one wants to make it to the championship game and have the state's best goaline on the other team get hurt, and just plow them over, you want to win it because you're better. Why not prove it then?
It seems like people are making the assumption that because a couple schools have good programs all are good. Well, if they really are, why try to get them out of the way so you don't have to actually beat them?
I could be in left field, but all my time as an athlete, I've always preferred the win when the opponent was playing their best game.

Section Changes

Post by brickwall33 » Tue Jan 03, 2006 9:10 am

Two main things need to happen.

1. Elk River should be in 8AA
2. WBL, Centennial, and Hill-Murray need to be split up from 3AA. Either move Hill to 2AA or Centennial to 4AA.

I agree with Brickwall. The sections do need some switching around a bit. I think all sections need work on them with some teams on the bubble between sections.
