boys vs girls

Post by mathrunner » Tue Jan 03, 2006 1:24 am

So, the Warroad, who is barely ranked this year, is playing some girls tomorrrow. I know this topic was discussed about the rules and stuff earlier, but when it comes down to it, they aren't having a good season, and they need a win. Who will win and why?

Post by mathrunner » Tue Jan 03, 2006 2:01 am

It's easy to say that, but why? Not going to talk about it, but it's MSHSL rules. Girls hockey is a different game. Will the 'giols' be able to skate around the guys, are they going to hit back, or are the guys going to be softies and not check, or why is it going to the goils?

If there is no hitting, which I think I read, Warroad should kill them. They just need to stickhandle around them...

_________________

BOB

I don't know if it would even matter.
IMO, the boys team will (should) be so much faster that this game will be over early

I don't know about this one, but I think that it'll be close. I think I'm gonna have to go with the girls, because there is no checking and the girls probably have better puck movement and the Warroad Boys team isn't doin so hot this season also.

The Womens team is small. One of their strongest players, Krissy Wendell, is about 5'7" and 150 lbs. She would be one of the smallest players on most top high school teams. Natalie Darwitz is about 130lbs. Team USA better be awfully fast.

anyone who thinks that warroad is going to kill the girls is an idiot, you are talking about the best girls hockey players in the country. would you say that an average highschool player would dominate a 100 meter dash against an olympic runner, no. the will be no stickhandling around the girls, now remember, they dont check so they are probly a little good at playing the puck, my guess is that since the guys are used to playing the body that the girls are going to stickhandle around them when they try to play the puck.
*WILD HOCKEY FAN FOREVER*
"Infamous - Having an exceedingly bad reputation; notorious"

Comparison

Post by EREmpireStrikesBack » Tue Jan 03, 2006 8:49 pm

I think it will be a decent game, but Warroad shouldn't have a problem. I remember reading awhile ago that in soccer the Women's National Team is comparable with a top 17 year-old guys team. If this translates at all to hockey, it sounds about right.

Elk River AA State Champions- 2001 Boys & 2004 Girls

correction

Post by mathrunner » Wed Jan 04, 2006 12:04 am

He meant an average male high school runner against a female olympic runner, or something to that effect, which is what this is. Last year's Warroad team even I don't know if it would've made a difference, one big thing they had is their size. The ruling is that they can check but the guy's team agreed they won't.

In the games I've seen the Warriors play this season which is all but two of them they have been the more physical team. I find mathrunners comments about a tough season kind of stupid in all three losses Warroad has they have outshot their opponents and not put the coup de' grace to those teams. In fact, I don't believe anybody has outshot them.

Now for tonight even though it is being played under HS rules there will be no checking the boys will be able to rub but that's it. That is not their forte' they are a good physical team that need to play the body to be successful. So basically tonight they are going to be playing with one hand behind their back - all bets are off the have to roll over. If TEAM USA agreed to play to those rules they should have allowed full contact and I would feel OK with this. The girls are excellent skaters supposedly very fast and if the boys are not able to bang them to slow them down the boys may have trouble. I for one would be much happier if this was a Russian HS boys team instead of USA women because of the no-check angle. I also feel this is a stuffing by the HS league because this is classified a counting regular season game versus just an exhibition, Whoever agreed to this at the school above the coaches committed a faux paus.

Okay, the are coming off a season where they were undefeated with two ties and a state title, and now they have only won a little above half their games and tied just as many as they did all of last season. Sure a lot of teams would like their record, but coming from last season it's not too great. I didn't say they had a tough season, I said they aren't haven't a good season. And a loss tonight would just add to that.
And secondly, outshooting a team means nothing if the score isn't there. I've posted about this many times before. Sure it says something to be in the other team's zone more, but if the point of the game was to get shots on goal, it would be a much different game.

Last year may have been one of Warroad's top five teams EVER. They are 6 - 3 - 2 now how's that a little above that's twice as many wins than losses. End of the month that may be different - this will be a tough & interesting January. Anybody that's trying to compare last year with this year can't be the sharpest tack in the pack. That's like comparing the 1990 Rams or any other awesome team with this season's edition two totally different things. I haven't read their obituary yet as they are in the hunt for their Section as much as anybody. Beyond the SOG's they've had some super opportunities to put a stake in the heart of a couple of teams and hit a bone instead it happens. If you won every game what would be the sense of playing. Is undefeated your definition of a good season cuz if it is just about every team on the planet in any level of any sport aren't having a good season. Let's see how things play out come end of February that's where the measure of success comes for these guys.

I think the no-check angle hurts in several ways I don't think the physical and emotional intensity will be there for the boys. They also a huge lose psychological factor in intimidation through which finishing their check create more speed and time for the stronger bigger club and slows down (thereby making the bigger faster), creates caution and causes poorer decision (if you know you are going to get hit when you touch the puck you get rid of it quicker thus doing something you may not have wanted to do) for the faster, smaller team. Disadvantage boys.

I cannot believe that this game is going to count, talk about a joke! Sure the game is going to be played my MSHSL rules, oh wait whats that? NO CHECKING! checking is a key part of any hockey game and without it i see no reason to count this game. maybe if every team played the girls team, but you cant count this, this has no place during the regular season and it hardly has any place even being a scrimmage!

I agree, this is a no-win situation for Warroad, although I'm sure it will be fun and memorable for the kids.

The game sounds like it is asking them to play by girls rules - ie no checking which will be hard to adjust. They are playing THE best women's team in the nation, one that has been togeather for some time. Finally, they have everything to loose, this is a setup against the boys, and one that I don't envy for them.

That said, if it is not taken seriously, and it shouldn't , then it aught to be fun.
