Best Team since the 99-00 Season?

Post by RinkRat10506 » Thu Jan 05, 2006 3:08 am

I would have to go with Centennial 03-04. Man this team was superb not letting any goals in the state tournament.

With a 28-1-1 record, I am going to go with the 2001 Elk River Elks. Yes, the 2004 Centennial team is very good and may be the best, but the Elks are up there also. Their 8-1 win over the Spuds in the finals of the state tourney made a big impression.

And in the 2004 state tourney, Centennial did not give up a single goal.

Spuds fluked their way into the championship against Elk River when they lost 8-1 so that's not a good bench mark to use against a Centennial team that was the best since 99'

Yeah, I know it is not the strongest reason for some but that was a highlight in their season to me. Beating a 22-5 Spud team in the state tourney 8-1 in my mind, it will be noticed. And going 28-1-1 for a season is also great.

But getting back to what I said before, the 2004 Centennial team may be the best but the Elks are up there also.

the 2004-2005 Moorhead Spuds...

That was the best team since 2004-2005, in my opinion, they had the best choke of all time too.
2A

not the best team but...

Post by Minolta » Thu Jan 05, 2006 2:48 pm

This team may not have won the state tournament, but they probably had one of the more talented teams that year in 2003, Roseville who placed second to Anoka. It was the team that had all danglers except for like 2 people. They had a solid team and should of won that game against Anoka. I remember that year they also scrimmaged Totino Grace (who won the class A title in 2003) 2 weeks before the state tourney and Roseville crushed them 9-0. What a fun team to watch...

What was Centennials record the year they won the championship? What were some of the scores against some top teams, and what were the scores of any losses or ties they had?

2004 Centennial

Post by PuckU126 » Thu Jan 05, 2006 3:20 pm

Centennial went 30-1 that year. I am not sure who they lost to that year, my guess is Moorhead or White Bear. Thats all I can remember off the top of my head.

Does anyone have a link of the records and rosters of the teams from the past?

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... uckU126 at: 1/5/06 3:34 pm

Centennial was 30-1-0 and they lost to Edina.
And Holy Angels did score on them in the quarters, but it was DQ'd.

I have to go with the undefeated Warroad team last season as one of my top teams recently, that 30-1 Centennial team was better though probably. Also, last years Moorhead team may not have won state last year but they were a pretty good team.

Centennials team had 255 goals for vs 33 against.

Top Seniors - Gorowsky, Ollila, Ornell and Greg Flynn.

Top Juniors - Vermuellen, Montgomery, R.J. Anderson and Stutz.

Top Sophmores - Bergren, Vanguilder, and Ryan Flynn.

Despite all this, the Spuds played them twice and both games were a coin flip. The game at the Centennial rink was the best high school game I ever saw. The Spuds were awsome also.

Moorhead

Moorhead's team was ridiculous last year. It upsets me that AHA beat them. There is no way they should have lost with Lee and Vandevelt.

the team that lost to AHA was quite a bit better than the team that lost to Centennial...1 player from '04 went on to play D1, 4 players from '05 went on to play D1

Weakness Last Year

Yea, but the '04 team had most of the guys from the '05 team on it. That's what I was looking at. And I thought the goaltending was better in '04, am I wrong?

Elk River AA State Champions- 2001 Boys & 2004 Girls
