Talk about having an ace in the hole at the seedings meeting. This is the highest quality win in 7AA.

As nice a win this is, and I am enjoying it, the bigger games are this upcoming week. I would have been satisfied with a one goal loss just to prove they can play with the best.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... hs>GR19 at: 1/7/06 8:01 pm

Not sure I'll eat that! (I didn't get too bloated; although my prediction was WAY off) My take on this is: the attitude of some of the Jag boys thinking this was a cake walk.

I believe GR has a decent team this year, but not to the caliber of the Jags. I had interest in both teams; although this year I was pulling for the Jags. Give it another day, another game...I believe it would be closer to my prediction.

Just my opinion from what I've heard so far.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... cuda701 at: 1/7/06 9:28 pm

I would contend that CEC over White Bear is of equal quality. If Rapids beats Cloquet at home, well, congrats, number one seed is locked up. But, you got Cloquet and East, lose them both, and you can start crossing those fingers again

I agree with that Majin, they lose both and it's up for grabs. they lose to CEC then because they split I think you flip a coin between GR and CEC for the top seed.

Is Rapids done with the section after next week? I think Cloquet still has to play East/Rapids/FL/Br to round out their 7AA schedule. Lets say Rapids splits....beat East, lose to Cloquet. Cloquet would have to run the table.

Game Report for Shutout

Post by JLS 81 » Sat Jan 07, 2006 9:37 pm

Shutout, Your club is very potent on the power play.....WOW can thay move the puck for great scoring chances.

Number 16 (just a phenominal player) got the first 2 and looked to be rolling to a route at that point. I was leaning towards having to eat crow when it was 2-0 before the popcorn was done but the next goal was huge and Rapids got it in the last minute of the first period from Stejskal. Towards the end of the 1st period the Jags took some killer penalties 2 checking from behinds killed them and the 2 and 10 seemed to put the Jags out of sink and the goal for Rapids, took Rapids to another level of play for the rest of the game. The 2nd was very even play and both teams went at it hard. In the early third it was all the same and I fully expected it was going to go 2-2 into overtime than Rapids took 2 penalties in the third and the second put the Jags up 3-2 on the power play with just aboslute great puck movement. To this point you had to think a season pattern had developed for Rapids to lose close games to very good teams with self inflicted penalties which has occured quite often. Bloomington took a penalty in the last minute and looked strong to kill it off and get the win but Rapids got two exellant chances in the last 49 seconds but could not finish until 4 ticks left on the clock they got a rebound clean to beat Lee.
In the overtime It was Rapids with the momentum but you kind of thought it was going to go to Bloomington on the characteristic example where one team gets all the chances cannot finish and the other team gets the one shot and wins in overtime. Rapids hits the crossbar and sure enough Jefferson comes right back and misses on a great opportunity. The Jags had some great socring chances only to have Jenson come up huge.
Lee played great but he did give up some very big rebounds which he kicked out very regular to the mid slot. These rebounds did end up causing the costly overtime goal as the shot went hard to Lee kicked out hard hit a skate and went in for the game winner.
My prediction on a one goal game was correct and Rapids did have to adjust to the Jags speed as they could flat out fly. Both goalies were made some super saves in this game. The defense played well for both teams, the back check was awesome for both clubs. This Rapids team is hands down the best Rapids team to watch in 10 years and to beat a club like the Jags who are always solid is huge for this town. Credit goes to both clubs they are 2 very good Minnesota hockey clubs. It is early to tell but it would be nice to see a team like Grand Rapids make a trip to state as I think this clubs grit would ignite the AA faithful and make a club if this type the "fan favorite" becuase we have seen enough of the same teams. The Moorheads, the AHA's, the Duluth East's, etc no knock on these clubs it would just be nice to see a small town make the big AA show once again because my gut instinct would be that fans would like to see that type of club come down.
I can tell shutout this...if the JAGS would have played this tough in last years State AA tournament they would have bagged the nemisis AHA. They played with passion, grit, heart and did not want to lose. As well Rapids matched that passion, grit, heart and this battle was all that Minnesota Hockey fans should expect when a tradition rich south team meets a tradition rich north team to play some hockey. I tip my cap to both clubs as each played a great game, the type of game that makes us all very proud to be from Minnesota.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... =jls81>JLS 81 at: 1/7/06 10:01 pm

Majin, that is correct. That's what I have been thinking ever since Rapids beat Elk River in Dec. when looking at the schedules.

JLS 81, thanks for the re-cap. Man I miss being at games like that. I hope there was a good crowd and the hometown fans start believing.

This was no sort of fluke. Both teams played very good and very even. Levine got BJ up 2-0. Then it was a great game. Shots were like 39-38 BJ or something like that. Very even game, great game. Either team could have won. Grand Rapids worked very hard and didn't get a fluke win at all.

_________________

BOB

Sure didn't sound like a fluke win. I'm not so sure I'd direct that at Shutout because GR won though. Seems GR19 was quite outspoken himself . The conversation would be much different if the outcome was different.

Anyway, Boblee were you at the game?

Great MN hockey, huh?

I'm sure shutout is a good ol' chap. Jefferson has always had my utmost respect. But boblee is right. It seems when GR loses to a top team that that's what is supposed to happen, but when Rapids beats a top team, well it had to of been a fluke. Very irritating.

I know one of the GR coaches...you have been given' some guff, but don't know that ALL of MN believes it's a fluke. Just think the Jags have more depth, talent, attitude etc. this year. I do believe Grand Rapids deserves much respect for their efforts in this game.

BLJ/G-Rap

Outstanding game at the IRA Civic Center. It was an incredible moment when Rapids tied the game with 5 seconds left. What are the odds???!!! I mean, there was only about 12 seconds left when Rapids only had the puck at center ice! A very nice goal by Morse to win it in OT with 1:44 left. It was a beautiful setup by Mr. White as well.

Big win for the "Halloween Machine." This should give them some momentum going into their big section game against Duluth East on Thursday. That one should be a good one.

Goodnight everybody!

I have to say that the Jags will look forward and not back, as well as Grand Rapids. Not sure what Rapids schedule is like (I believe it listed upcoming games in a previous post).

I believe the Jaguars will do well in their upcoming games (they have Moorhead coming down in February) and will take their section. Sounds like Rapids could, but may have a tougher time of it (DE & ER). Any thoughts on how this would play out?

cuda, ER and East will most likely be the 4/5 seed. Two teams I think will be more of a challenge are Cloquet and Brainerd. Rapids has I Falls, East, and CEC next week. After that they should cruise through their IRC schedule until the last week of the season they have road games with Denfeld and Roseau that will be good tests going into the playoffs.

Congratulstions to the T-Hawks:

I was not able to attend the game but the report was that anyone who doid get to see it saw a "Playoff Atmosphere" event. Even though the Jags came out on the short end it apparently was a action packed game.

I was disapointed to hear that there were a lot of penalties on the Jags and from my contacts said that had a lot to do with the Hawks being able to come back from the 2-0 and 3-2 defecit.

Good luck to the T-Hawks, I will be pulling for them to represent 7AA later this season!
