Scites was measured at 5"11 195lbs.

Weaver gaave up 3 goals in 3 periods - no softies - shut out in first period, even better second period stopping several high quality scoring chances when the team was completey out played. Also a great 3rd period even though 2 goals scored, both were very good goals and he made many great saves.

Weaver was measured at 6'0" 158 lbs.

It was tough for goalies, the gaolie evaluation hour really didnt do a very good job. They did not do any goalie movement/skating drills, no technical type drills at all or puck handling skills. Also no conditioning or grit type drills to see who is willing to compete and in good shape.

Weaver and Scites are both very strong skaters and puck handlers and in very good conidtion. It is my opinion they would have seperated themselves even more.
Agree that the goalie session was lacking and it was similar to the RMD goalie sessions. USA Hockey is looking to revise how they rate the goalies in future camps - problem being you may only see 2 shots on a goalie during each scrimmages which doesn't tell any story. Agree that any kind of conditioning drill would have also seen a quick drop off of most of the netminders. To that point, in talking with two scouts following the Prospect Camp they also liked the Jr. Coyotes goalie -Vandenburg, as a sleeper selection indicating he doesn't have the team in front of him to prevent 45+ shots a game and has carried the team for the last 2 years. At Regionals he stopped 50 out of 52 against the T-Birds... and he is still growing at 5-7" and 140lbs. They compared him to HoneyB's St. Cyr. Had a shaky first period giving up three and and ended it with a SO and getting the goalie MVP for the team. Another defensive standout was Dillon Dix a very heads up D man. Just heard he was going to play in Omaha this upcoming season. Knies and Bargar are for real - Knies contemplating both USHL and WHL paths.

Knies and Barger are for real. Arizona is producing some good talent as is Northern California. The scout feed back on Dix, Knies and Barger was strong. All 3 should draft well and all 3 have a strong interest in WHL. Pretty sure Dix is staying in San Jose next year and the other two in Phoenix.

Cal Hockey,

Why do you suppose a lot of California players are more interested in the WHL as opposed to the USHL or NAHL? After a WHL team reaches their limit on imports where will the California players turn?

Observer, I don't think they are more interested. I would say that at this time of year they are "as" interested. It's their first exposure to the "next step." The WHL prospect camp is in our backyard - within an hour from most of us - and pretty much every AAA player gets an invite so it's cheap ice for some fun skating. For the serious players it is the first chance for serious feedback as far as the future. Being that the WHL draft is way ahead of USHL it's just a good benchmark. If timing was equal I think the USHL would win out over WHL. You'll see a good number of the same CA players at the USHL camp in June. You'll also see the USHL tournament hosted by the San Jose Jr Sharks Labor day. Good news is nothing needs to be signed yet so all avenues are open.

The import limit is for Non North American players. US kids dont count against the import maximum.

I would say a lot of the local players were there more for the ice time with no intent of playing WHL but to come from MN, MI, IN shows a certain level of interest.
That's the problem with these type of skates. The criteria for being allowed to participate is flawed. There are too many players making it difficult for better players to show their game.

I agree with you Calhockey, but I would add that the USHL camp has '99 players in attendance, and last seasons USHL tournament won by the Bobcats was laughable. Check out the competition on myhockeyrankings.

Bargar is a product of socal and this was his first season with the Bobcats. He was on the draft list anyway. Knies is a very good player. I didn't notice the date on this post, but good call about Dix getting drafted, if it was previous. I didn't see that coming.

Wrister-How was Dix going to play for the Lancers, or were you talking about a AAA Omaha team?

Looks as if all 3 are playing in Phoenix next year.
