Top Teams - Squirt Peewee Bantam

Post by stonehands »

Enough of the open close tryout debate.

Who will the top teams be in Squirts, Peewees and Bantams?

Based on what we know today....top two in all three leagues...

Squirts: OMG and WBL
PeeWee: Edina and Sibley
Bantam: Elk River and Hermantown

Sneak up on you:

Squirt: North Branch
PeeWee: Roseville
Bantam: Edina (feels weird to type that)

Two Year Itch (teams good two years ago that are missing kids):

Peewee: none come to mind
Bantam: lakevile south, Edina, prior lake

North Branch? North Branch is going to make some noise in D10 this year? What's going on up there to make you think that?

The formula to any good SQA team is have 3-4 great players and some role players.

NB has 3 bonafide rock stars on one team.

They remind me of Princeton who played B two years ago and did well and then transitioned to A last year with some some success. But I think they will do a little better than the Tigers did last year. JMHO.

Besides Andover, I'd say NB has the most top end talent in D10 this year. Go Vikes.

Another team to watch out for in D10 is Pine City, yes, Pine City. They played A last year with a slew of first year kids...they will sneak up on you, too.

I'm also hearing that Eagan will have it's horses this year (1 '02 Orange kid, 1 '02 Blades kid...), if true, that team will be awesome.

Thanks for not naming names TS. Wouldn't want to mess with Ugottobekiddingme. He'd scratch your eyes right out.

Enlighten us, who is leaving LVS, PL & Edina that would knock any of those teams out of the top two?

For the sake of offending the namers here are some initials:

PL: KF and SR
LVS: AP and HE
Edina: GM and maybe a couple more

Some to HS some to SSM

These are confirmed...(some via Twitter, some via the association coach, some via HS coach, and some via them playing in HS tournaments this Summer). Bantam hockey loses some good talented 9th graders each year.

I'd say that Hermantown and ER lose no one from their strong PW teams from two years ago. Edina has so much depth that I think they will be strong, but not as strong as HERM and ER. Also lookout for STW and STMA, those two will be good, too.

Elk River will be very good. Hermantown is better.
I would also consider OMG and Eden Prairie to be in that group, depending on the 9th graders. OMG was consistently good 2 years ago. Eden Prairie always gets a couple of 9th grade transplants.
2 years ago Wayzata had two PWA teams. Will that pay off with ONE very good team this year?
Like others, I have a hard time not putting Edina in the top 5. Without GM, which direction will they go?

OMG will be missing it's top 2 guns from two years ago (per Bantam coach), EP missing arguably it's best player...goalie (mystery)
Some say Edina will be better without GM, some say worse (mystery)
I like Wayzata, way too many unknowns (mystery)

So is GM going to SSM or Varsity? Surprised either way...

Not so quick on ER not losing players. Have solid info on two forwards moving to high school, and goalie moving to private school. :(

Who is not returning for Prior Lake, they had 8 first years coming back plus the 9th grade class is huge in prior lake

See above....KF and SR

That is a lot of offense.

I still think they have a lot of talent and depth (their PWB team won state 2 years ago, too).
