Interesting since # 13 EGF beat #6 Warroad on Tuesday 4-1. The Let's Play Metro Hockey got it wrong again. I would guess there are some poor judgements with other schools as well. Especially the outstate.

I would imagine that the rankings are set at least a couple days before the paper goes to print. The rankings that come out on Thursday are not likely to reflect Tuesday's results.

Damit, logic and reason has no place in these threads! We are here to be outraged at all the unfairness!

I wish they would update their rankings following each weekend, on Mondays, like USCHO and USA Today do for the college teams. That way you would know which games are included for sure. But LPH has always done it mid-week, I suppose to match the weekly publication date of their paper edition.

P.S. I wonder when was the last time Warroad lost three games in a row?

Kevin is the editor at lets play hockey. I asked our HS coach how this is done and format. Sounds like hs coaches submit their votes every wed morning by noon so he can get the paper to press but results are posted online on the website around 300pm. Again sounds like you must have a active hs coach and coaches that pay attention to what is happening around the state....no teams play on wed so this seems to be a good format.

Oh there are some issues with rankings with some Metro teams as well in my opinion but it will all get straightened out when all teams have more games played. Some teams only have a couple games in the books. Big weekend for Warroad to either find footing or not in the rankings with Breck and Edina on deck.

No one is implying that there's any sort of favortism, politicking, or gamesmanship going on with the voting, are they? How boring this forum would be if everything was done logically and perfectly.

SChamp97 - I won't defend anyone's picks, but in any ranking system, there is often a lag between results and rankings, to AAADad's point. It takes a few weeks for the dust to settle. E.g., everyone thinks Smith HS is great based on last season. They win a game, still great. They lose a game, must have been a fluke, but they're probably still pretty good. They lose 4 games in a row - oops, they aren't as good as I thought they were, I need to move them down about 10 places and move some other teams up. To use another metaphor, the cream will rise to the top. And again, only the late February rankings really matter.

That is true. The cream will rise to the top. My attitude toward that paper has been generated over years, nit days. Just the latest example that I could prove.

This is only a guess, but if all HS coaches submit votes, then it's up to their combined votes, not LPH's influence, to determine rankings. So if there is any metro bias, perhaps it's because there are a greater number of metro teams/coaches and they vote on what and who they know? Maybe since Warroad has "always" been at the top, the coaches keep them there until they receive evidence otherwise and then re-adjust their picks accordingly. I guess at the end of the season, non-metro teams always have the chance to send a couple teams to State and they can let their on-ice play do the talking and prove the rankers wrong.

Metro or outstate, it isn't always the best teams at state.

a rough first shot - I haven't double checked any of the records, section assignments, etc. so I fully expect some feedback or errors to be found.
