Shapshooter...Wasn't Warroad down 2 or 3 goals when Boucha took the cheap shot and came back and tied the game w/o Boucha? We could all meet at Frank's and get the real story.

Warroad did well with Boucha and crew. Very memorable time in h.s hockey. I do recall they got to the tourney through the "back door" section 3. Believe they beat Pokey Traschel, Duluth, and then knocked off Roseau in the semis, whom had beaten Warroad in the Section 8 finals.

The 1997 Team though not the stuff legends are made of was undefeated to the State Championship. I don't have the time or mind set to figure out how many teams were undefeated to the Championship but went home without the gold. Still it was great team.

Mills, Angell, Roberg--Gophers
Anderson, Mathias, Coole--Bulldogs
A.Coole--Huskies (prev. Only to be broken the following year by the Hounds.

Virginia 1972?

Post by PT16 » Wed Feb 05, 2003 10:07 am

Virginia didn't even make it to the section final game in 1972 as they were thrashed 6-2 in the semifinals by the Falls who went on to win the state championship with a 23-3-1 overall record. So I wouldn't consider Virginia's 1972 team worthy of consideration as one of the best teams to not win the tourney just because they had some colorful players and some decent talent. Virginia has never even been to the state tourney.

blainw was great! how bout BONIN led Bears?

Post by zephyrJV » Wed Feb 05, 2003 10:23 am

im replying to somebody saying the year elk river and eden prarie gettting beat and allowing a suprising blaine team to win the tournament. that suprising blaine team has the nations leading scorer in d1 hockey currently in brandon bochenski, and matt hendricks of st cloud state, who is a all wcha canadate since his freshamn year. so they wern't a suprise at all, they were a hell of a team and cruised through the tournament. that just goes to show you that the soft eden praire kids cant win the big one. that elk river team was good, but they blew a 5 goal lead to osseo, that says a lot.

best team never to win it all how bout the white bear lake teams with eventual hobey baker winner BRIAN BONIN? they had some good squads. im out!

WBL/Bonin

Post by MajinHockey » Wed Feb 05, 2003 3:02 pm

Bonin's senior year was '92, and that year WBL was ranked #1 or #2 most of the year. They were supposed to thrash everybody (from what I heard up north). Then they get upset in an enormous fashion by Mound? I believe it was in the quarters? That is just plain sad and pathetic. However, the best part was the the State Tournament had Bonin as a sideline color commentator during the tourney, oh, it looked sorta humiliating that he was giving analysis when I'm sure he wished he could have been on the ice. Question, have WBL and Hill-Murray always been in the same section? Because if so, that would also have made for an interesting game of Cloquet vs WBL in the quarters of state.

bonin years!

Post by zephyrJV » Wed Feb 05, 2003 7:21 pm

actually they lost to mounds view that year, but in 1991, they lost a section final thriller to hill-murray, and hill murray won the tourney that year. yes hill and white bear have always been in the same section, nobody but them have won that section since 1982. also i know that duluth east won it in 1995, but the 1996 team had the same group of kids (spehar, locker, mathias, coole, mills) and they got upset in a classic against apple valley in the semis. yeah cloquet with langenbrunner and petrov, and that big defenseman that i cant remember now, against bonin would have been special. cloquet should have beat jefferson in the semis that year! im out

hey jr i have a suggestion about kevin constatine. my dad grew up with kevin and played hockey all his life with him. from the stories i have heard from my dad he said kevin was always on the back burner to another goalie named steve musetta. so how could he be such a great goalie now coach that is a different story.

I think the defenseman you were thinking of was Dave Michaud. And yes, Cloquet most certainly should have beaten Jefferson. I believe had they gotten by (only 56 seconds, man that is tough to swallow, even 11 years later) Jefferson they would have won the Championship. Oh well, if if and buts were candy and nuts we'd all have a wonderful christmas.

Don't be so hard on Jr slim, your dad may have played with Constantine, but he might not have told you the whole story. Museta(Moose) graduated in 1975, Kevin in 77. Kevin was a Sophomore during Museta's Senior year, and the 2 switched off with a third goalie by the name of Charlie Holland. I'll never forget that 75 team, got beat by a very good Virginia team 11-2 in the 2nd round of the playoffs, all 3 goalies saw action in that game. Virginia was loaded, Joelson, Harrington, Hendrickson to name a few, I had to hear "oh when the saint's go marching in" 14 times in that game. Those were the days!

The 1992 Rosemount Irish club struggled a bit in their first 22 games (1-20-1) but put it all together for a run at the coveted Tier II title. Bad refs and lucky goals stole the much deserved championship from the Irish as Greenway snuck out with a 7-1 win.

hey my father graduated in 76 and as far as i recall didn't moose graduate in 76 as well?? i wasn't tyring to be hard on jr i was just saying that from the hands on stories i have heard kevin was horrible in the net so thats the only reason i said that. 77 might have had a god team but i am not so sure that kevin led the team. on the other hand i will admit he is a good coach.

Constantine played for RPI and then for the Montreal Canadiens farm team. Where did the other two play? Now with those credentials Constantine must have been a poor goalie!

Easy pick. 40 years ago, 1963 IF Broncos. Check the roster. A win that year in the championship game would have been part of 5 straight titles. 'Nough said.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... NPine69 at: 2/6/03 10:04:50 pm

SLIM- Kevin C. was probably the most highly recruited high school player to ever come out of Minnesota in any sport. Ken Dryden (sp) used to call him three times a week in high school.
