Gordon will probably win it, but Kilpatrick should win it! Interesting how someone mentioned the Johnson kid, Gordon's center, you are right, he should get some looks, he has actually been a little more consistent than Gordon, much of that has to do with the 2-3 players harnessing Ben on every shift. Gordon has been very good, but much like Guyer last year, he's struggling more his Senior year because of the attention he is getting. Kilpatrick on the other hand is a real player, strong and a natural scorer- He should win an un-biased vote!

Yep, so there it is.

BTW, im Garrett's cousin if anyone was wondering how i would know this anyway or if I am just saying something to be saying something.

Gotta Disagree on Kilpatrick

Post by DoRight101 » Sun Feb 02, 2003 9:09 am

Zamman and Slapshooter, I will have to heartily disagree with you. I attended the MSC-AHA game tonight and I was VERY disappointed in Jimmy Kilpatrick's performance. The line he's on (most people probably refer to it as the Kilpatrick line, but I will call it the Huck line from now on) has a ton of speed and talent, but Jimmy seemed to be there for himself. He looked off his linemates time and time again. I was sitting behind the goal where Holy Angels shot twice. There was one play where Huck's line managed to get a 3 on 0, Jimmy took the puck down the ice and into the offensive zone, pulled the goalie toward him, and TOOK THE SHOT! His linemates were wide open. It was a no brainer and should have been an easy goal. Jimmy could have had 5 easy assists last night but kept trying to score. If this is how he plays, it might be very detrimental to his team when it matters.

Geez, blast a kid who tries to score, I mean, scoring isnt part of hockey or anything! If I had his shot, I'd be shooting constantly too. And if I can remember correctly, he had 2 assists, and one was a beautiful pass to Huck on a 2 on 1. And another thing, it's easy to criticize when youre watching from the stands, but trust me, its not as easy as it looks on the ice. On the play you are referring to, if Kilpatrick wouldve seen the same thing you did, he wouldve passed it. He probably just didnt see his linemates open.

Jimmy is a very good passer. I didn't see the game, so I don't know specifically what you're talking about, but he sees the ice better than most. Their power play, from what I've seen, is basically him standing behind the net looking for the wide open guy, and he always finds him.

That said, I don't think there's any way he'll be Mr. Hockey. Same with Regan, same with Hawkins, same with Lundin, same with Brad, same with Rollwagen, same with Huck, same with Thauwald. Why? There are already 2 good candidates who are going to the Gophers. Every year that has happened, one of the Gophers has won it. The only exception was the Sertich over Erickson year, and I think by now we can admit that Marty probably should have been offered the chance to be a Gopher anyway. This one's coming down to Gordon and Borgen (both good candidates, to be sure, I'm not complaining here), and we all know it.

Congratulations on a great win Thursday night! I thought you played aggressive all night long, good to see. If Burdick plays that well in sectionals watch out. He played outstanding. Tell Peterson with one second left to just fall down on a face off and block the puck. Play that way the rest of the season and you are going to give anybody in the state trouble.

I mainly watch Roseville, White Bear and Centennial so I'm not sure who deserves it. I know almost every year many players are deserving.

Minnesota gets some of the best high school players evey year, so it's no wonder they have many winners. I also know Kris Miller from Greenway won the award and he was a UMD recruit.

I know a number of USHL and college scouts and the overwhelming response I get from them is Gordon. Time will tell and whoever wins will be deserving.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

centerman- That is an interesting comment as Bert Gilling an Asst. Coach at BSU says he is not very good and would never make it at Bemidji, sounds like sour grapes to me. He would rather have half the Eveleth Golden Bears team that couldn't get accepted at BSU.

Yes, we've all seen that list. That's Bruce's list from the dent0110 site, and it doesn't reflect much of anything beyond preseason predictions of performance. For instance, I can think of about 15 forwards who deserve mention before Kent Bostrom (who is being outscored by his brother by 7 points, as of Saturday). Also, I'm sure they're going to have a defenseman on there (or a couple), and I'd imagine Anderson from WBL and Lundin from AV would be much higher on that list than Andrew Guyer, family relations notwithstanding.

Like I've said, this really is a 2 man race. Kris Miller and Marty Sertich are exceptions, but this rule is pretty solidly observed. That's 11% of the winners who weren't Gophers, and Sertich was such an obvious choice that there was no way they could keep it from him.

Thanks a bunch <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"> we're gonna have a tough section to get through and having not played Centennial this season it will be tough to play them if we have to. Same with White Bear as usual especially with them always coming into the end of the season strong. Otherwise we know we can beat Hill now without key players and can only get stronger. Just hope we don't get worn out from playing 2 lines.

I've seen Centennial play twice this season and they are not peaking. If you hit them they are beatable. They do not like contact. The coach at Centennial does not teach physical hockey. You put any forchech together you can beat Centennial. White Bear is having trouble scoring goals, if you can jump on them you are o.k. They are more thinking about you guys then anybody else. Remember one thing, White Bear has trouble in any close game down the strech!! They are beatable. You can beat them!!!

Kilpatrick

Post by DoRight101 » Mon Feb 03, 2003 10:21 am

I apologize if anyone feels that I was ripping on Jimmy Kilpatrick. I don't know much about him, just what I've heard and read on here. I was just stating my opinion based on one game, and I will not back off my statements that he missed very obvious (and automatic) passing opportunities IN THAT GAME. I did not say he wasn't skilled. Like I said, that whole line is very skilled and very fast. And yes, when he started passing, great things happened. But it wasn't just the 3-0 that caught my attention because it happened time and time again. Perhaps he felt that it was such a big game he had to take it upon himself to win it. Perhaps coming off the flu had some effect. I don't know. He simply didn't live up to my expectations.

One man's opinion.

Please don't pull the old "flu" trick Zamman. Every team in the state has had the "flu". It amazes me how these so-called all stars always have excuses. Yes, I saw the game, and no, JK as you call him, was NOT the best player on the ice that night. Is he good, yes. If you want excuses, which I didn't hear one parent or player on MSC's team complain, it should be that they just ran out of steam. I suppose they do play back to backs, but that is alot of travel. Just as the AHA team had to do going out there last year. Also, Please! on the comment on Hillen, your kidding aren't you?

I actually feel a little sorry for kids like Gordon and Borgen. The way some people act, if they win, its not because of how they played but because of where they are going to college. Lame reasoning to say the least when you consider (as I have said many times before) that the Gophers only have one vote to cast for Mr. Hockey (just like the other D-1 schools in the state!). If one of those two wins, it will be because he has performed very well on the ice. It is as simple as that.

As for the BSU asst. who may have made those remarks about Gordon, that is a laugh. He couldn't make it at lowly Bemidji yet Lucia and Blais wanted him for their top WCHA programs? What a dope that asst. coach must be! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... s>Hammy at: 2/3/03 10:57:24 am

jimmy kilpatrick never makes excuses about anything. i understand the coaches didn't even know he was sick all week, until he took himself out of the game thursday night. as to the game against msc, he did a great job on the penalty kill, nearly set up a goal on the power play, and assisted on two of the four goals. his line was matched against the top line from msc, and did a good job. i think he had something around 10 points for the week going back to the ssm game. i think it's hard to criticize the way he plays. he's not perfect, but he'd certainly get my vote for mr. hockey.

Regan give me a break

Post by highscout » Mon Feb 03, 2003 6:18 pm

In my opinion nobody should even consider Regan for Mr. Hockey. What has he done this season in any big game?Nothing. The only reason all the players in that girls confrence have anypoints is because it is the easiest conference in the state along with missota. Regan is overrated along with alot of the players in that week conference. I think Garriety is a big time player and he should have moved to a different school and stop make Dey and Peterson look like solid players when they are above average at best.

Onlooker9 you obviously are just an onlooker. No excuses. I never knew that Mr Hockey should be scoring all the time, there is more to hockey then just scoring. He leads the team and the powerplays. His leadership and his presence on the ice, that is all part of the role.
Correct you have not heard anyone from MSC complain, and you probably won't. This is a Minnesota hockey site.
And as far as your comments on Hillen, again you are just an onlooker, with the exception of his size (which doesn't affect him) he is easily one of the best defenseman in the state.
