seasons best memories...

Post by hubbaa » Wed Mar 12, 2003 1:25 pm

1. seeing ben luth back in nets.

2. seeing a certain player from jefferson giving everything he had every shift of everygame. for my money he showed the most grit, determination, heart, will and desire to win every shift he was on the ice. if i were a d-1 coach i would take him in a heart beat, you take him you have yourself the future captain and leader of your team. the young guy is brad peterson.

3. aha vs. ssm: minnesota's best proved they can play with the nation's best. great atmosphere, game and always great to watch sidney crosby.

Are you an Anoka fan?? haha...cuz then i guess seeing Luth in the net would be a great memory as well as relief..i cant knock Luth ..i only saw him play maybe twice this year..and i KNOW that he isnt as soft as that one goal may have showed..

i think the best memories are watching an underdog beat the favorite in pursuit of either a section, or state championship..its kind of a broad statement, but its just great to see. its kind of ironic but it almost seems like its an upset when the favorite wins! or atleast this year..i say this because it seems so rare when the brackets finish by the actual seedings that were assigned before they started playing ( the #1 finishing first, so on..respectively by rankings)

Luth had a serious medical problem earlier this year (I forget what it was), and that's why seeing him get back in the nets was great.

Thanks for the note hubbaa, I'll pass it along. I'm going to have to go with the Jefferson vs. Elk River game in the 2nd game of the season. That place up there was rocking, and the Jaguars showed what they could have done if they got some goaltending later in the season. A runner up would be Roseville's OT win over Jefferson at the Xcel holiday tournament. Though it didn't end the way I'd have liked, that was about as fast paced of a HS game as I've seen in a long, long time, and it was exciting from beginning to end.

AV beating EP TWICE this year, including a 47 save shutout performance by AV's goalie. Didn't EP only have 3 loses in the regular season?

Not the best and not a heartfelt moment but one of the funnier things I saw at a hockey game was the Section 5A championship when a penalty was called against SLP there was a whistle, and like 5 seconds after the whistle the SLP player with the puck took a slapshot and hit a blake player right in the helmet. and no I am no sinical it would not have been funny if the guy got hurt but he was fine. The funniest part about it was the SLP player did not get a penalty. It was clearly after the whistle, and it hit the kid square in the face. Great officiating if i ever seen it
Good Teams Would be Nothin without Good Water.....

I saw most of Red Wing's games this year, so not much for highlights there...

For state tournament, my highlight was when Josh Duncan (Lourdes) demolished #17 (Simley). That was the biggest hit I have ever seen. Yes, you may rip me for enjoying something so hurting as that hit, but I know a lot of you out there enjoyed it and were laughing when he attempted to get up and skate to the penalty box.

I enjoyed reading your best moments post, Petey, especially when you mentioned the BJ-ER game early, and commented that "the place was rocking." That was a great game, and one of my best moments. I'm the PA announcer up there, and try to create some atmosphere in a building that sometimes is counterproductive. I remember turning to one of the box guys after your brother scored on a gorgeous shot, and we both said "wow." I really thought I was watching two tournament teams in that game.

The other moment I remember fondly was ER winning the Capitol City Classic. Three great games, prizes flying from the upper deck onto the fans, and my visiting relatives from Colorado (including thier HS daughter and college freshman son) who left thinking Minnesota HS hockey was about the most exciting thing on earth. The SuperRink folks do that tournament up right. Lots of fun, and again I thought the Elks were a tournament team at that point.

But, they'll be back. They were a youngish team, and they've got tremendous coaching. It was a fun season overall, especially with so many teams vying back and forth in the battles.

1. Anoka winning the State Championship. Also hearing their fans go wild, they were the best by far in the tourney.

2. Seeing Simley go to the State title game with Davenport.

The Jefferson-ER and Jefferson-Roseville games were great, but I think the best game I saw all season was the AHA-Moorhead game down in Hastings. It's too bad the Tourney game wasn't a repeat performance.

Number two for me was the Edina-Duluth East game in December, a great back and forth game with lead changes and some great stops by East's Jake Maida in the OT period until Edina finally got one past him.

The Anoka-East game was probably the best game of the Class AA tourney.

Other good memories include the Jefferson kids taunting Ryan Hawkins at the BIG, Eastview's torrid third period comeback against Jefferson also at the BIG, Apple Valley v. Eastview in the Sectionals at Braemer, White Bear-Roseville second game at Roseville and the White Bear-Centennial sectional game in front of a full house at the Coliseum. Things I'd rather not remember include Centennial smoking Roseville for 3 goals in the first period, Roseville losing in two tournament championship games (at Christmas & at State) and Eden Prairie's godawful arena.

Favorite Memories of 2002-2003 Season:
-Seeing the the team from West Bloomington get shellacked twice by Hawkins and EP.

-The enjoyable 3-week hiatus taken by a certain poster and his pompous ramblings after the above mentioned Jaguars were beaten in sectional play.

-Watching VideoScout and SlapShooter get blasted at Reid's on Friday evening.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

-Watching the "annoying" style of Ben Hendrick of Anoka during the tourney and always having him seem to be the instigator of any offensive opportunities for the Tornados. Without him the Hounds may have won the tourney.

-Enjoying the posts of Shooter, Scout, and Bader.

-Cosetta's pizza and McGovern's Hot Turkey Plate!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p">

-Seeing Coleraine defeat "the unbeatable Holy Angels" (oh yeah, it was the refs that beat them)<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Those are a few of the best. So apparently I have to add the 6-0 humiliation of Edina at the hands of Eden Prairie in the section finals. At least the Jaguars scored in their games.

It's pretty sad when your best memories of the season involve me, don't you think?

There was a story on him in the Strib at the beginning of the season. I was going to try to find it and link to it, but anything older than three weeks in the Strib's archive you have to pay to view.

So, if I recall correctly, after last year's tourney they discovered that Ben had dangerously high blood pressure levels and when they checked into it discovered that he had an abnormality with his heart that required surgery to fix. I can't remember what the abnormality was, but one thing I remember about the article was that one of the first things Ben wanted to know was when he could start playing hockey again. Now THAT'S a hockey player, about to go under the knife for open heart surgery wondering when he's going to play again. You gotta love it.

Favorite Memory SLP/Edina 1/9

Post by Froomcat » Fri Mar 14, 2003 5:16 pm

For me it's real easy. Seeing St. Louis Park upset unbeaten Edina 5-4 in ot at Braemar.

Edina, up 4-2 with four minutes to play gave up one, then Park pulls the goalie scores with 12 seconds left and then wins in the ot.

Park's 4th win vs. Edina since 1965 I believe. Glad to say I was in attendance.

Watching Davenport stand on his head vs. Park, Lourdes, and Warroad at the state was a great memory even though it hurt to see my beloved Orioles lose to him.

seeing the 10-14-1 minnetonka skippers beat the 18-5-2 jefferson jaguars 4-3 in the sectional playoffs to end their season. Arundel from tonka scoring with 1 minute left to give the skippers their first lead of the game. great game.
