You're partly right; they have a "tradition" of recruitingnotTONIGHT wrote:Tradition recruits itself. Just like every player on their top line this year.TheInsider wrote:Minnesota pride! But, is it true Oshie is from California/Washington? Before Warroad he came to Warroad.

I love it how someone can always take it to the negative level. Who gives a crap about high school, the USA just beat the soviets and a kid played for Warroad. Can't you just enjoy the moment and grow up, I am pretty sure every team has odd playing on their team that their mother didn't give birth to them in the city limits of your town.

The Russian team has as much in common with the Soviet era teams, as the USA team does to the 1980 team. (that would be zero )HockeyBum wrote:I love it how someone can always take it to the negative level. Who gives a crap about high school, the USA just beat the soviets and a kid played for Warroad. Take a pill HockeyBum.HockeyBum wrote:Puckbreath... I didn't say anything about the 1980 team. If you don't like the USA and can't celebrate their success then follow a few simple words from my father, if you don't have anything good to say keep your mouth shut, no one wants to smell your puck breath
If you don't know the facts about something, then don't get upset when you're corrected.
I thought the game, and especially Oshie's goals were cool as hell; that make you feel better ?

Yeah, I knew it was '89 to '91, thanks.Puckguy19 wrote:Most of them, as the collapse of the Soviet Union was in late 1991.puckbreath wrote:I wonder how many, if any, of the Russians were even born before the SU collapse.mulefarm wrote:Fighting Sioux defeat the Soviets!!!!!!
Most are probably mid-eighties on birth dates I would guess, not sure.

When Oshie first moved to Warroad he started on the 4th line. Carry Eades wasn't even sure of he'd make he varsity team. Are you saying Warroad recruits 4th liners? Hard to believe. The people who put the most pressure on Oshie to move were his family who were from the area originally.puckbreath wrote:You're partly right; they have a "tradition" of recruitingnotTONIGHT wrote:Tradition recruits itself. Second, the first year the Marvin scholarship was awarded was in 2007 and he graduated in '05. Beyond that, hell yeah the scholarship is a wonderful thing. Any community would love to have something like that. I've seen high school kids literally put in hundreds of hours of community service to improve their chances of gettin the award. And regardless of what you think, most kids who get it aren't hockey players.

I'm well aware of his history, both before, during, and after Warroad.warriors41 wrote:When Oshie first moved to Warroad he started on the 4th line. Regarding the Marvin Scholarship, great info.
On the official version of it.
The one I'm referring to, is the well known regional nickname version, where dad gets a job at Marvin.
