This is a two team race and it's really not even that close. The one team that intrigues me is Northfield..they really gave NP fits Saturday.curtiscurve wrote:1A Play-Off Predictions

We should see West and New Prague in a pretty damn good game for this section. The beauty though, is in the playoffs, especially at the high school level, anything can happen. West is probably the favorite on paper, but the games aren't played on paper.

Northfield only had a chance when NP had 3 in the box in the second period, otherwise the Trojan's were pretty much in control.GopherPuck15 wrote:This is a two team race and it's really not even that close. This is definitely a two team race, but we've known that for some time now. I, personally, don't believe there will be any upsets in the couple rounds. I expect the top four seeds to get through. But I do agree that Northfield can cause some disruption for these teams.urban iceman wrote:Northfield only had a chance when NP had 3 in the box in the second period, otherwise the Trojan's were pretty much in control.GopherPuck15 wrote:This is a two team race and it's really not even that close. New Prague is a very good team, the offense is always going to be a question mark for me though. West I believe is the most complete team, just they'd need to throw together a complete game to beat the Trojans. The first game between these two teams could have gone either way. Lourdes I don't see causing too much commotion; if they go any distance it'll be due to Burkel saving the team. Albert Lea is always tough come sections; while they may not be the best group of players, they are always well prepared and a gritty bunch. Northfield can mix things up a bit, though I don't feel they have the depth to make a strong run. Maybe they'll prove me wrong though.
It should be a great tournament, but I'm still sticking with West to come out on top.

When a team can tie the game with one shot, with three minutes left in the game, I consider that having a chance.urban iceman wrote:Northfield only had a chance when NP had 3 in the box in the second period, otherwise the Trojan's were pretty much in control.GopherPuck15 wrote:This is a two team race and it's really not even that close. I truly believe this is West's section to lose. New Prague is solid because they're going to play gritty and work hard. They out worked Mankato West in their first meeting. The Scarlets can't just show up and win because they have superior talent; like they did earlier against NP, resulting in a loss. If Mankato West matches the intensity an effort of New Prague, should both teams make the final, I think West wins a 4-2, 5-3 kind of game.

I completely agree. In these picks, all games (with exception to Northfield and Albert Lea) are more or less a toss up. I think La Crescent has more firepower, East and LSP are similar and Austin and Faribault have played close games. I completely agree with you Bob.BadgerBob82 wrote:Hard to disagree picking the higher seed. But I would take Red Wing over La Crescent. Also East over LSH/SP/TCU. If the Austin goalie plays as he can, I could see Austin stealing the game 1-0.

I did pick La Crescent to win, but I am not surprised by the result. Coach Rajanen does an excellent job with scouting and game planning. Granted the record of the team does not show it, but he is a very, very good coach.curtiscurve wrote:Red Wing over La Crescent 8-1 is a very interesting result.maverickhockey7 wrote:Interesting night in Section 1A last night, eh?
Red Wing exposed the depth of La Crescent. They continued to put the puck deep in the zone and were very active on the forecheck. Also, Red Wing seemed to finish all their opportunities. I was a bit surprised La Crescent started who they did in net. I think if they weren't down early it'd be a different result. Definitely a more level game. All that aside though, I'd say it was the most complete game the Wingers have played this year. But now they have been graced with another game against New Prague in New Prague. The Wingers played at New Prague in sections back in the 07-08 season and lost that game 5-2 if I remember right..? It's a difficult place to play on the road in sections, I don't see the Trojan's slipping up.

My guess is the goalie from Red Wing will be too much for Faribault. While LHS has trouble scoring, I think Faribault will be shutout. I pick LHS 1-0, possibly in OT. (Though they will be outshot 44-14)
I think Albert Lea will beat Northfield. No score prediction. But I think they will grind out a win.
West could win 12-0 or more.
Red Wing plays a much tougher schedule than La Crescent. I didn't think that score was a surprise. New Prague will easily beat Red Wing.

I agree 100% with this. I saw the first matchup between MW and NP and MW did not play a very good game. Clearly they have superior talent and fire power and would make a better showing at the X and most likely earn a top 4 seed. I predict MW wins this section with a 5-1 win over NP.

EEEEASY there Trigger! MW probably does have good talent and firepower for the schedule they played this year (not their fault the big 9 was down) but I think they are pretty even when they play and adjust to each other's game. If they both make it to the final, it will be a dog fight to the end!!Dog_Log17 wrote:I agree 100% with this. I saw the first matchup between MW and NP and MW did not play a very good game. Northfield at Albert Lea resceduled for 7pm FridayDog_Log17 wrote:So what happens if any games tomorrow are called off due to the weather? Would they make the games up Friday?
Faribault at Lourdes rescheduled for 7pm Friday
As of 9:30 pm the Red Wing at New Prague and LeSeuer at West games are still on. My hunch is Red Wing will have to postpone their game as they'll have to go through the blizzard to get to New Prague, LeSeuer may be on the west edge of the storm and be alright.
