Gophers vs Badgers
Big matchup between #1 and #2 this weekend at LaBahn Arena! Will Wisc keep their #1 ranking after the two game series?? 16 MN girls on Gophers vs 1 MN girl on Badgers.
Re: Gophers vs Badgers

10 Canadians and 5 from SSM with 1 overlap! Interesting what appears to be a different past recruiting model than U of MN. Badgers do include 4 home state Wisc girls on the roster..... but as many know there are some good get MN girls in the future Badger pipeline..Wisc won't have only 1 MN girl on roster for long.
Can't wait for the match-up!

Gophers take game 1 l
And the gophers win again tonight 4 to 1.
Can't we all just love one another:)

The problem is there are enough good girls in high school hockey here that Minnesota can't possibly keep them all. Obviously Duluth has had a very strong program which was another nice option for the girls. Plenty have take the trips east to play as well at lots of schools. Interesting to me that the Michigan schools don't seem to have embraced ladies hockey.sinbin wrote:Gophs have done a pretty good job of keeping that maroon and gold curtain solidly in place on the St. Croix, but it looks like there might be a tear or two forming in that curtain now. We'll see if that tear continues to expand or if it's sewn shut going forward.
And I think the trick for the Gophers is to keep the European pipeline open to Sweden and Finland. Seems to have worked out well for both the men's and women's programs.

A quick look shows University of Michigan offering more women's sports than University of Minnesota. Having Water Polo and Field Hockey instead of Ice Hockey seems odd, but I'm sure there is a historical reason.mnhockeyguy2014 wrote:Michigan is a disgrace for being a pinnacle of boy's hockey but refuses to offer a girls program. I don't care much about Ann Arbor, but I sure wish Northwestern and Purdue had teams. Tough to find Div 1 women's hockey and a strong engineering program.

I wouldn't have left Minnesota off the list. Nor would I have excluded Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Penn State. While not quite as highly regarded in engineering among the Big 10 schools as Illinois, Michigan, and Purdue, all are well regarded nationally. In some disciplines they are very highly regarded (Chem E at the U, for example)luckyEPDad wrote:OK, need to limit the search some more. Div 1 hockey, good engineering program and not in New York. Anyway my daughter could never play for RIT, she's not from Ontario.U10Father wrote:RPI and RIT would qualify there.
Funny you left the Minnesota out of the list.
In addition to Princeton and the hockey playing Ivy from New York with a well known College of Engineering (Cornell), I believe it is possible to earn a BS in Engineering from any of the Ivy's. Although the number of disciplines offered at most may be limited relative to Cornell, I think all can be considered as having good programs in the ones they do offer.
Finally, I wouldn't rule out schools such as Connecticut and Northeastern that have relatively large Colleges of Engineering. Their programs may not be as highly regarded as these other universities, but they do provide additional options for the girls interested in D1 hockey and engineering.
Wisconsin's engineering program is nothing to sneeze at (sorry, I didn't know the engineering-ly equivalent metaphor).luckyEPDad wrote:A quick look shows University of Michigan offering more women's sports than University of Minnesota. I predict my H-M girls team will be pretty good again this year as well.luckyEPDad wrote:Predicting a gopher hockey win. Tough one today with Minnesota tying the score with 90 seconds left and winning in the last minute of OT.

I have it on good authority (I know someone in the leadership group) that EP does not plan to roll over and play dead against HM this year. There is a lot of resentment towards the eastern green girls (or green girls in general) that hopefully they can channel in a constructive way. I expect the next meeting to be a real barn burner.Sparlimb wrote:I predict my H-M girls team will be pretty good again this year as well.
